Military Superiority: As North Korea and Iran become nuclear threats, Russia objects to the possible deployment of U.S. defense systems in Poland. But then, so do the Democrats. What would Ronald Reagan do?

Russia, which was supposed to be a partner in the six-party talks to rein in the North Korean missile and nuclear threat, objected Tuesday to the possible deployment of U.S. missile defense components to deal with that very threat.

The Bush administration would like to deploy 10 interceptor missiles and an anti-missile radar in Europe to reinforce our defense against a missile launch against the U.S. or its allies from a rogue state such as Iran or North Korea.

Two countries that were once part of the Soviet empire, Poland and the Czech Republic, have indicated willingness to host such a deployment.

"We see this as an element of destabilizing the situation, an attempt . . . to change the strategic balance," Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov told a news conference.

We've heard this before. We heard it when President Reagan first announced the Strategic Defense Initiative in 1983. We heard it when the Gipper deployed Pershing missiles in West Germany in response to the Soviet SS-20 threat. We heard it when we withdrew from the useless straightjacket called the ABM Treaty. For that matter, we hear it from Democrats today.

Fortunately, Reagan paid the Soviets no heed, and the days of the Evil Empire were numbered from that point on. It collapsed in part under the strain of an arms race it could not win. Today the Axis of Evil is on the march, and while President Bush has made missile defense a priority, a Manhattan Project-type effort is needed to fulfill Reagan's dream of preventing an attack rather than avenging it.

Meanwhile you should look the other way while we install our military base on the Lebanese coast.

Say it again ... loudly.

The dems are intent on funding "first responders" - people who bravely rescue others in peril without regard for their own safety. They come in after a disaster. The Bush WOT in Iraq is aggregating the bad guys - over there - so they cannot hit us here.

That seems like the smart approach.

I think that's the first time I've seen the verb aggregating used in a sentence. I checked the dictionary just to make sure I understood it's meaning in that context.

The war on terror has brought many of our enemies out in the open and concentrated their actions far away form America.

What it has really shown is that the terrorists know that taking aggressive action against terrorists and those that support them cannot be seen as a successful strategy, or they risk seeing appeasement being replaced with vengeance.

They know that the war in Iraq is crucial to their cause. It's democrats and the media that are denying that fact even as the terrorist rally their supporters and make it clear that they consider the war in Iraq to be central to their cause.

True.

Unfortunately, Kim Jong Il paid the Americans no heed, and the days of the Free World were numbered from that point on. It collapsed in part under the strain of an arms race it refused to win.

Hmmm.

Unfortunately, Islam gave the West's will to fight no respect, and the days of Western Civilization were numbered from that point on. It collapsed in part under the strain of an ideological battle it refused to fight.

?????

I've heard it attributed to Rummy as the "Roach Motel" strategy. Is that really his idea?
