Glenn Beck a closet liberal?

Posted on 10/11/2006 2:10:48 PM PDT by discipler

Vanity - I listened to Glenn Beck today build up to how he was going to vote for Lieberman who I know is the better pick over the Democrat. But Beck went on one of the tirades about how the Republican and Democrats are the same with their only interest being in getting elected. That kind of relativism ticks me off because their is an objective difference between the two parties. Granted there are bad Republicans, but by and large they are more principled, moral, and favorable to conservatism than are the Democrats. I'm just waiting for Beck to see if he swings left the way others have. Maybe he's the politician who has to position himself for more favorable ratings on his television program.

He often says on his radio show that it's not about Right vs Left, it's about right vs wrong. He's not a dyed-in-the-wool party hack like Limbaugh.

And you have to admit that GWB never met a spending bill he didn't like.

Agreed but that's not saying much. Voting Republican these days is like changing a diaper. You might not enjoy it but it's better than the alternative.

I agree with Beck. there is no real difference between republicans and democrats now, IMO.

Beck has acted "odd" lately...

He was really panicking about some guy named Mir that is supposedly the last person to talk to OBL..and that he said there are 13 suitcase nukes in the USA right now...getting ready to be set off.

But, he isn't the only one.

Have you ever listened to Jerry Doyle??? HE is another one that has made some u-turns in the last couple of years.

Why aren't illegals being deported? Because Republicans are afraid they won't be reelected. It's just that simple.

In some ways, he's correct, and tirades against the Republican Party is well warranted.

Actually, he is on to something. Getting elected and repeatedly reelected is the goal of most of them, regardless of party. Career politicians are the problem, not the answer.

TERM LIMITS, NOW!

Please spare me. Most politicians are wealthy dirt bags. Prove otherwise.

When they achieve the Presidency or other high profile status some recognize the sense of responsibilities and change their stripes. Most don't and are in it for the power and the money.

You haven't been listening to Glenn Beck long enough to know what he means when he says such things.

He'd rather vote for an American who does what is right regardless of their party.

That said, he knows that things would be a lot worse if the current left-wing Dems were running the show.

Please spare me! I understand your point, but on the macro level we need a majority in the house and senate to help swing the courts. Like it or not, if we vote democrat, you can bet the rat will vote with the rats. And the conservatism legislative interests will be tabled in the committees. We need the majority of REPUBLICANS and Beck should know that. With all of the criticism of Bush on spending and all, a large part of that spending has to do with defense. We are in a war which is something the Democrats would avoid. They would presumably roll over and give away our freedom. Like it or not, the Dems are soft on war and the Republicans take a stronger stand on our liberties. So spare me this political relativism because it doesn't hold. Come on.

"He'd rather vote for an American who does what is right regardless of their party. "

Well, put. Frankly, so would I. It's just that it is usually (a little bit) easier to find someone who does right in the Republican party. But that is absolutely no guarantee.

You made a claim. You prove it.

Although I tend to agree with you premise, telling someone to prove the negative of your position is a liberal's way of debating. It would be impossible to prove most politicians are not something/anything. Every example provided would always be short of that magical "most" distinction.

I have been listening to Beck for a long time. Yes he says this about the current Dems. So why suggest that we should vote for a Dem because there isn't one worth his salt. But Beck is starting to sound like a Neal Boortz type who gets all wobbly at election time. Boortz at times sounds like the Republican best friend, but come election time he will be lumping the Republicans and the Clinton Dems together as if they were the same.

Exactly! Term limits are needed in the worst way. Without them politicians will do what it takes to get reelected and that is all. Very few politicians will stick their neck out and do what is needed but is considered unpopular. That is why we will not get SS reform, tax reform, border fences, terrorist profiling...but we will get things like, protecting horses from the dinner table, building bridges to nowhere, not drilling for our own oil, funding the UN.....bla bla bla bla

Thank you. That's exactly my point. The moral relativism that Beck is suggesting is just not an accurate portrayal of reality.

I wouldn't vote for a Democrat under any circumstances. He may be the farthest man to the right in the country, but he's still one more seat towards them regaining control. I don't live in Ralph Hall's district, but I wouldn't have voted for him before he switched.
