ABC sure has a short memory.

That being said, I hope Cory's family found out about this before it was announced over the radio and television.

Why anyone wants to fly a private plane is beyond me. My brother's best friend from childhood died in a crash last year, along with his wife and young son. Just because you have a ton of money doesn't mean you have to indulge in such things. It's just too dangerous.

And it's not Cory's fault he was a Yankee.

In an odd way one could blame the likes of Giambi, Jeter and Rodriguez for his death.
If they had performed better the Yanks may have beaten the Tigers and would have been playing in Oakland at this point in time.

Awful to see. Also awful to see that people would would have such jihadist hatred for a baseball team that it couldn't even be held in check at a time of death.

Also, not that it makes any difference now, but for the record, Corey Lidle would have been a free agent after the season. So his family does not even get what would have been a sizeable payday.

You have to know your limitations and not make stupid decisions. With the proper training and experience, piloting a plane is probably a hell of a lot safer than driving in Metro Atlanta.

Yes, seriously. It's Cirrus, not Cyrus.

I've got two coworkers who's wives have cancer, one terminal. That is tragic. A young pitcher died doing something both he and I love. That is a damn shame, but I'm not worried about the families financial well being. They are set.

Enough with the anti-tigers crap

bad enough that the rest of the U.S thinks detroit is just a crime-filled cesspool (i work IN detroit and its NOTHING like that)

he crashed due to pilot error and plane problems, you can knock it off with the "oh, this wouldnt have happened if the tigers lost"

Damn straight. Leave the flying to professionals with lots of training and lots of flight hours.

"...piloting a plane is probably a hell of a lot safer than driving...."

Absolutely correct. Fatalities for 2005:

Per D.O.T - Motor Vehicles = 37,594

Per N.T.S.B - General Aviation = 321

I'm personally feel more at risk driving to the airport where I fly!

What anti-Tigers crap?! I love the Tigers and I'm glad they beat the crap out of the Yankiees. The Yankees are scum and I dislike them intensely.
The fact that they were "The Chosen Ones" in 2006 and have exited in the first round gives me an intense feeling of Schadenfreude.

Faulty data. At least, incomplete.

How do these statistics look when you consider how many cars are on the road in any given 24 hour period versus the number of private small aircraft that are in the air for the same 24 hour period?

How about deaths compared to hours actually spent *operating* said vehicle? Quite a few more people drive than fly. Although I know several hobby pilots--none of them fly anywhere as many hours as they drive.

I hate to think about how many hours I've spent driving a car over a lifetime. In the past two or three months, I've been road-bound over a hundred hours. Per year--several hundred to a thousand. I'm not going to tell you how old I am, but I've managed many thousands of hours with neither accident or fatality, thank the Lord.

Hobby pilots are just scairt that their prerogatives might get challenged, like being able to tour a populous downtown at lower altitudes. Wouldn't want to take the fun out of the hobby.

As affluence spreads, more and more are able to indulge the "dream" they have of soaring ascendent.

Condolences to the family and friends of Lidle.

I know this is a solemn and serious post, but some of our resident punsters couldn't get serious if they were having a heart attack. Ya gotta Love 'em.
