CNN is quoting the FAA: Fixed-wing aircraft.

What is a fixed-wing airplane?

"What is a fixed-wing airplane?"

One that Airbus did not manufacture.

What is a fixed-wing airplane?

The rotor of a helicopter, is, in essence, a wing that moves.

Well, its just about all of them. LOL. Exceptions would be my old bird, tiltrotors, ultralights and hang gliders.

A fixed wing plane is a conventional airplane as opposed to a helicopter or autogyro. the blades of a helicopter or autogyro are considered to be rotating wings.

Fixed wing means the wing is fixed in place - i.e., it doesn't move.

I.e., it's generally what we call "airplane", whereas helicopters are "moving wings", if you will.
