Baron Bodissey forwarded this email today; is the US Department of the Interior following the lead of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, and blocking American anti-jihad sites?
Im a long-time reader, without ever actually commenting on anything. Yesterday the U.S. Department of the Interior (I work for the Mineral Management Service) installed blocking software on their entire network. Gates of Vienna is now blocked, as are all sites with a .blogspot URL. Also blocked are other conservative blogs, such as Wizbang. More than half the sites I check on a daily basis are now completely blocked. As of today, Little Green Footballs is not blocked, but thats about the only one Ive seen that isnt. Theres not much that can be done, but I just thought Id let you know. Ill check later today when I get in to see if the liberal blogs are blocked. Take care, and thanks for the good stuff you folks post.
Update: As of now, Little Green Footballs is also being blocked, but DailyKos is not... Can we try to get the word out? Blocking conservative blogs and not liberal ones is BS.
UPDATE at 10/11/06 10:46:36 am: More info from Gates of Vienna:
Heres a quick runthrough of what Ive found so far at work. Youll see that its pretty one-sided.
Blocked Blogs: Captains Quarters, Cox and Forkum, Gates of Vienna, Little Green Footballs, Michael J. Totten, Michelle Malkin, Power Line, Protein Wisdom, Rantings of a Sandmonkey, Roger L. Simon, The Adventures of Chester, The American Thinker, The Belmont Club, The Doctor is In, Wizbang,
Blogs not blocked: DailyKos, Democrat Underground, America blog, Atrios.blogspot.com, JuanCole.com, The Huffington Post, Talkingpointsmemo.com
In fact, every blog linked to off of DailyKos seems to work.
How about Leftist website? My company blocks all such websites since they are considered "unproductive"
Just Damn. Simply cannot understand this stupidity.
Bummer! I don't know how much you can complain if you are browsing from work. They might have set up some sort of traffic counter. If nobody there goes to Kos they missed it. Of course, how likely is that?
I've often wondered if somebody would challenge me for patronizing right-wing 'hate' sites. I don't think anybody reviews the logs here until/unless someone complains.
How 'bout just going to Daily Kos or DU (hold nose!) and find a post were they're cussing particularlly bad (practically any post) with f-words, etc, print off that page, take it to HR and demand they block it or you'll go to EEOC. Or a lawyer.
Forward copies of this post to every conservative member of Congress and to conservative talk radio.
Look at the blogs not blocked: Democrat Underground, Ariana Huffington, etc. Sheesh! Very telling indeed!
Management may not be concerned about the specifics. Probably, they just wanted sites blocked that caused a reduction in productivity. Some leftist in the IT department may be setting the agenda.

Could be a traffic issue!! DUmmie blogs not showing up on their radar - not popular !!!
Uh, Daily Kos has some of the highest blog traffic on the net.
This is outrageous.
Good insight. ONly blogs that are being read are being blocked. Finding a liberal blog reader is like finding an Err Amerika fan. Take it as good news. It means people are interested in what conservative sites have to say, but not the moonbat sites.
They should have the Internet, or not. This is censorship plain and simple.
"Some leftist in the IT department may be setting the agenda."
That is what happened at the local HCA facility when I discussed this with the IT director. He just smirked the smarmy liberal smirk and he said you're the first to notice.
Exactly what I was thinking. The mineral managers at the interior dept. are being paid with my money and I would prefer they spend their time managing minerals rather than reading for enjoyment. I don't care if it's Kos, FR or the NAMBLA website, they should be doing that on their own time.
This is a federal agency. I suspect the decision was made in the bowels of the organization by career personnel ~ the Secretary of Labor should be informed and asked to remove the offending parties ~ not just get the blogs unblocked, but to fdire the people who undertook such a partisan act.

They'll probably argue dollars and cents and conservation ethic. Still that should not stop the Secretary from smacking them silly and out of their jobs.
