AP Exclusive: Reid got $1M in land sale

WASHINGTON - Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid collected a $1.1 million windfall on a Las Vegas land sale even though he hadn't personally owned the property for three years, property deeds show.

In the process, Reid did not disclose to Congress an earlier sale in which he transferred his land to a company created by a friend and took a financial stake in that company, according to records and interviews.

The Nevada Democrat's deal was engineered by Jay Brown, a longtime friend and former casino lawyer whose name surfaced in a major political bribery trial this summer and in other prior organized crime investigations. He's never been charged with wrongdoing — except for a 1981 federal securities complaint that was settled out of court.

I hope you're right that this is an October surprise, and that the GOP is going to take off the gloves to win this fall.

This election ain't the democrat's by a long shot.

There's still plenty of hidden dirty tricks to be exposed.

Two people can play this game.

Bush's Justice Department prosecuted Cunningham, swiftly. Bush's Justice Department gave Sandy Burglar a pass. Went after Libby. Gave Armitage a pass. Still hasn't indicted Wm. Jefferson, (D-La.). Still investigating Menendez, no indictments on the horizon.

Unless something changes in the way the DOJ enforces the law, Reid is not in any trouble.

His bigger problems are legal rather than political.

land sale, jrooney wrote: My glass is half full, yours is obviously half empty.

I guess I've seen the self-serving, skin-saving snakes we have in our party up close and personal more than you have.

THIS IS A ONE-TIME STORY. ARCHIVE IT.

This is the AP's excuse for the next hundred times they go after a Republican. THis is a one-day, mid-week, mid-day hush-hush story that fewer than a dozen papers will pick up.

Now, if the GOP had the guts and spines to bring this up, to demand an investigation, to put the FBI on it, to talk about it on the cable shows tonight, then maybe it would get some small amount of traction.

Instead our side is scrambling to make sure no one accuses them of leaking it.

Looks like the Hildebeast will be the new Senate Minority Leader. Reid should have expected this"

Now, wait a minute. There are a lot more senior dems who'd get the nod before she would...Byrd, Biden, Lautenberg, schumer

Range Magazine did a story that touched on Reid's machinations not too long ago.

I feel so much better now that RANGE MAGAZINE did a story. I might be able to talk the County GOP into putting it into their newsletter, too. (Unless they think it's too mean-spirited or something.)

The MSM will try like they did with Rathergate. We'll see if they succeed.

Comey, a democrat, whom set up Fitzgerald with all those special magical super duper powers, was believed to behind the deal for Burglar. Comey is gone now. Reid is in trouble and will not get a pass on this.

Have the Dems crashed in the 06 elections. She can then come in as the savior of the party for 08.

It'll be tough for the Sunday shows not to ask senators about this.

"OK, I'm confused. What would be the Hildabeast's motivation in all of this?"

Let me try.

Hillary knows that there are more seats up for grabs in 2008. If Reid goes who will be Senate Minority leader? And if the RATS win who will be the Senate Majority leader?

No lose for Hillary. She will be nominated to take either spot. Plus it is free press for Hillary plus at the same time, she can declare that the RATS also clean their own house which might actually save some seats.

Hillary made her move today.
