Apple's "Mecca Project" Provokes Muslim Reaction
On October 10, 2006, an Islamic website posted a message alerting Muslims to what it claims is a new insult to Islam. According to the message, the cube-shaped building which is being constructed in New York City, on Fifth Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets in midtown Manhattan, is clearly meant to provoke Muslims. The fact that the building resembles the Ka'ba (see picture below), is called "Apple Mecca," is intended to be open 24 hours a day like the Ka'ba, and moreover, contains bars selling alcoholic beverages, constitutes a blatant insult to Islam. The message urges Muslims to spread this alert, in hope that "Muslims will be able to stop the project."

Are there any MURDERERS inside the NY building praying to a meteor? Probably not.
Are there any MURDERER/TERRORISTS inside with weapons waiting to murderer more innocents? Probably not.
MOST LIKELY RESULT:
None-the-less, when the lawsuit gets to SCOTUS, the justices
will AGAIN get down on their knees to Mecca and rule for the terrorists.

"So, the black wrap is during construction?" Yes, the wrap was to protect the transparent walls.

I think it is outrageous that ANY Muslim would feel that they are being profiled. How can any sane person not react viscerally to the attack on the WTC!!!!
To: avg_freeper
I like it. It's stunning actually. My only regret is that I will probably never get to NY to see it and the other fabulous things that NY has to offer. I never saw the WTC in person, but to this day, when I see movies or TV reruns with the towers, I mourn them and all the people lost that day.

Why is apple's logo an apple with a bite out of it?
To: absalom01
I can go with this, lets eliminate all references to Islam out of the public. Nothing will refer to allah, mohommad or anything related to islam.

Yes, the wrap was to protect the transparent walls. So the indignation was a day late and a dollar short? Not surprising. Or perhaps they objected to the "mecca" part? Wonder how many Christians would have murdered people if it had been called Apple Heaven or Apple Paradise? Perhaps we should be insulted by Islamic phrases infiltrating the English language.

Apple cracks me up. That sound you can use as your alert signal...sosume? As I understand it, the Beatles music company, Apple Records (or whatever it was) allowed the computer company to use the name on the condition they never got into the music business in any way.
Then they developed that alert sound. I guess lawyers were pretty nervous about it...so they named it so sue me.
With the itunes/ipod phenomenon, however, it all seems so silly now.
