Republicans Want to Turn Over a New Page
Harper's Magazine ^ | 10.6.2006 | Ken Silverstein

Posted on 10/10/2006 11:21:21 AM PDT by ConservativeMajority

"Last May, a source put me in touch with a Democratic operative who provided me with the now-infamous emails that Foley had sent in 2004 to a sixteen-year-old page. He also provided several emails that the page sent to the office of Congressman Rodney Alexander, a Louisiana Republican who had sponsored him when he worked on Capitol Hill. “Maybe it is just me being paranoid, but seriously, This freaked me out,” the page wrote in one email. In the fall of 2005, my source had provided the same material to the St. Petersburg Times—and I presume to The Miami Herald—both which decided against publishing stories."

Interesting that he says "We decided against publishing the story because we didn't have absolute proof that Foley was, as one editor put it, “anything but creepy.”"

That kinda undermines his No October Surprise theory, as well. If the emails they had were not sexually explicit, then what does he mean when he says they had them for more than a year?

Get over yourself. I don't see how making an honest error plays into ANYONE'S hands. Truth is, this story is far too confusing for any but the most dedicated to follow. Right now, I'm not in that category--personal real life issues are taking precedence over 'Rat shell games.

I'd love to be able to claim credit, but "la cage aux Foley" is the title that the Journal Editorial Report, the show with editors from the Wall Street Journal which is on late night Saturday on Fox News Channel, gave it.

"Republicans want to turn over a new page"

I think Harper's was having a bit of fun with the title.

"Among those who received information about the story but declined to pursue it were liberal outlets such as Talkingpointsmemo.com, Americablog.com, and The New Republic"

So, Kenny-boy, a "source" put you in touch with a "Democratic operative", and subsequently you became aware that these were being shopped around to reliable DUm outlets.

I think you just earned yourself a subpoena, Kenny.

[Update, October 10, 2006 2:00PM: Talking Points Memo
did not have access to the emails—and it's possible
that other publications named here did not either—but
all, at minimum, were aware of the salient facts of the case.]

And know you admit you don't even know what you're talking about. Brilliant, Kenny. Keep up the brave face.

Interesting Harpers waits on this. It's been since 9/28 already. Did they forget? Of course, more unnamed sources.
