(Airmont, NY WABC, October 8, 2006) - A woman died after being bitten in the head and throat by a pit bull that she and her sister were watching for a friend. They were trapped in the garage of a home in Ramapo and attacked by a 100 pound pit bull.
It mauled 44-year-old Jeannine Fusco in the head and neck. She died from her injuries.
"They were dog-sitting for an acquaintance, and she let the dog out early in the morning, and when it came back inside the animal went right after her," Ramapo police Detective Lt. Brad Weidel told The Journal News.
"She had severe bites to her throat and her head," Weidel said.
Fusco's sister, Valerie Wall, 43, was also bitten on a leg and a hand and is listed in stabel condition at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Police said they tracked down the pit bull in the sisters' backyard and they shot and killed it.
No charges had been filed against the dog's owner, but the investigation was continuing, Ramapo police Sgt. Mark Briggs said.
But, but, they're such nice pets! </sarc>
He was always so quiet and good with children.
I will take my Lab any day....when we are walking through the park off leash I just have to tell the people we meet "Wet dog alert"...since he is in and out of the water.
Pit Bulls - The Final Solution!
They are the canines of peace. /s
Those poor women! Why anyone would own this breed of dog, is beyond me. There are so many other breeds out there that are great pets.
Yep, pit bulls are a good breed, some just have bad owners. /sarc
There's an idea for a movie "Mohammed meets a Pit Bull."
Such terrible things to say about the deceased.
My cat Clio is only a threat to the Geckos in my yard.
"A woman died after being bitten in the head and throat by a pit bull that she and her sister were watching for a friend."
"Can you babysit our pit bull?"
Ummm...Let me think about it...HELL NO.
Prayers for these 2 women and their families.
What - no one outside to maul?
Note to self: No pit-bull dog-sitting.

I'm sure some Shih-Tzu's have 'bad owners' also, but you never see this headline; "Shih-Tzu attacks two women, killing one".
Barbra Streisand is off her leash again.
Exactly.
I can only wonder what he reads.
Mark Lieberman, owner of ... a dog-training business, said he wondered about the dog's training.
... he emphasized that well-trained dogs didn't make unprovoked attacks on people unless trained to do so. Pit bulls generally are good dogs, although some have a "nasty" personality, he said.
"Most of the ones I train are just fine
Every time this happensincluding this timepeople say the pit bull was "just fine" before it happened. Maybe you can't know which ones are going to snap. Maybe they're all ticking time bombs.
if they don't come from a line that's bred to be nasty," said Lieberman, who lives in Yorktown. "It's all in the training,
So, "it's all in the training" unless it's "from a line that's bred to be nasty." Apparently, the only way to be sure it's from such a line is to wait for it to become nasty...
and it takes serious training. It's not just the work that the trainer does. It's the work the adults do to make sure it stays trained."
... or, if the dog wasn't from a nasty line, its owners simply didn't make sure it stayed trained.
Pit bulls originally were bred to fight bulls, bears and other dogs, he said, and usually have big mouths, strong jaws and solid builds.
That's a big-ass dog by any standards. Pit bulls usually top out around 50lbs. What the hell was this?
Or is this just a number pulled out of thin air by a reporter?
