Besides - we Germans also constructed some quite sexy planes. How do you like the Focke Wulf 190 D-9? My granddad flew one during late WWII along with the (ugly looking) Me 109 (German nickname "Beule" -"swelling"):
This plane was not slow either and made 709kph (440mph). Its latest version, the Ta 152 H 1 was even faster with a maximum speed of 750 kph. All of them would give for sure great racing planes today if they would be available for such proposes.

As a I kid I read about Gen. Jimmy Doolite racing one of these.
Always wanted to see one of the BeeGee Super racers fly. (Not in the same class as the new breed of hot shots, but it had its day.)

I've always thought the Focke Wulf was quite a plane...even though the model I built of it as a kid, I burned holes in the wing so as to appear being shot down in a dogfight with an American plane. :)
