Democrats assail Bush's N. Korea policy
By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer 13 minutes ago
Democrats seized on North Korea's brazen act to criticize President Bush's record in confronting the communist regime, contending the administration's focus on Iraq ignored legitimate threats.
Democratic Sen. John Kerry, the president's rival in 2004 and a potential 2008 candidate, assailed Bush's policy as a "shocking failure," and said, "While we've been bogged down in Iraq where there were no weapons of mass destruction, a madman has apparently tested the ultimate weapon of mass destruction."
One month before midterm elections, North Korea's reported nuclear test provided Republicans an opportunity to shift the focus from their embarrassing and politically explosive congressional page scandal to national security, an issue the GOP considers its strength.
Sen. Mitch McConnell (news, bio, voting record) of Kentucky, the Senate's second-ranking Republican, accused Democrats of playing partisan politics with a nuclear weapons threat. "Listening to some Democrats, you'd think the enemy was George Bush, not Kim Jong Il," he said.
Seizing on North Korea's actions to argue Republicans are stronger on security than Democrats is riddled with pitfalls and leaves the GOP's standard-bearer Bush as well as his rank-and-file vulnerable to criticism.
The president long has faced complaints that he has failed to sufficiently address North Korea and the threat has festered on his watch.
In the nearly five years since Bush labeled North Korea part of an "axis of evil" with Iran and Iraq, Kim Jong Il's government has withdrawn from the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, announced it has nuclear weapons, refused to return to six-nation talks and launched seven missiles into the Sea of Japan, including a long-range Taepodong-2.

If I were Bush, considering the fact that this is the way THEY are playing it, I would take the political advantage of calling a bi-partisan meeting with all the main Republican leaders and the Dems--Pelosi, Reid, Kerry, Kennedy, Clinton,Schumer, Biden--the whole ignorant bunch--and let them all discuss together what should be done with Korea--give them all the opportunity to put forth their ideas. Those that didn't accept the invitation would show they have nothing to contribute except political rhetoric and those that would attend couldn't complain that Bush doesn't listen to the ideas of others or that he just causes division. It would put the the ball in their court and they would have to play it.
Now that there is a good chance the test was a fake, just a big conventional blast, is John going to apologize???????????? No, he'll just say the Glorious Democrats saved the day when Jimmie gave Kimmie those reactors.
Brilliant. And if I were Rove, I'd have the session "accidentally" filmed so the whole world could see their blank stares..
Thanks for the reminder!
No in Kerry's case it would be...Freedom from hemeroids? Kerry Hemeroid Cream.....
kerry: "The president long has faced complaints that he has failed to sufficiently address North Korea and the threat has festered on his watch."
MY VERSION: The LONG FACED president wanna-be always complains that he has failed and wants to change his address to North Korea as his jealousy of President Bush has been festering for so long he had to buy a new watch.
Since Kerry said he had a plan for everything, I have to think it was only a snit about losing that caused him to keep it to himself, lest somebody who beat him in an election got credit for saving his country using one of his great ideas...

He's trying to lose the flip-floping tag by being consistent in his idiocy.
The "shocking failure" was Cleaning Lady Albright after discovering N. Korea was creating nukes...."They lied to us!"
LOL. So true. Not one, just the usual shock and outrage. He's become a charicature.

It will be interesting - and humorous - to see how Kerry will flip flop on this condemnation once he announces his candidacy for 2008 and hits the trail. He couldn't possibly stand behind those words as a candidate (or God forbid, a president) so watching him backpedal and redefine words will be fun.
Cheers to your new bombs!
