TAMPA, FL- Congresswoman Katherine Harris, the Republican candidate for the United States Senate, soundly defeated Bill Nelson this evening by a 54% to 45% margin in the straw poll conducted at the Lakeland Bi-Annual Politics in the Park. The Harris campaign continues to build momentum, engendering tremendous grassroots support throughout the state with a pro-growth, pro-family message that resonates across the political spectrum.
Congresswoman Harris commented, I appreciate the strong support of a majority of voters who are disillusioned with Bill Nelsons lack of leadership and his record of voting against Floridas best interests. I will fight for Florida in the United States Senate.
The Lakeland Bi-Annual Politics in the Park straw poll illustrates the widespread support that exists for Harris consistent message of cutting taxes, eliminating wasteful spending, protecting the institution of marriage and opposing amnesty for illegal citizens. Congresswoman Katherine Harris is the only candidate with a demonstrated record of leadership who will fight for Floridas values in the U.S. Senate.
Katherine Harris, the Republican Candidate for the United States Senate, currently serves as the Representative for Floridas 13th Congressional District. After receiving a Masters in Public Policy from Harvards Kennedy School of Government, she continued a distinguished career in public service to her native state that began in the State Senate and as Floridas last elected Secretary of State. She resides in Longboat Key with her husband Anders Ebbeson and his 24-year-old daughter, Louise along with the constituents of District thirteen.
Dale Mabry is one of the main drags through Tampa.
The poll was probably taken at a Republican fundraiser....and she only got 55% of the vote.
But seriously, I think she'll do much better than most the 'respected' polls indicate. I can't imagine that the majority of Floridians (republicans) will punch the chad for Bill Nelson. I'm not thinking she'll win yet, but it will be close.
Dale Mabry is a main artery through Tampa, Florida, eight lanes per side.
Now wouldn't that be wonderful...Nelsen has been a senator so long, I'd be very surprised he can actually be beat [today...in Florida thanks to Jeb Bush, it's very hard to win an election through fraud as the dimwits have done in the past]. I'll pray Harris beats his socks off. ;o)
Well, well -- just goes to prove how bogus these polls are. Oooooh - the GOP is in trouble..... I think it's the other way around.
We'd rather see Harris naked.
The "Politics in the Park" is a civic event where they invite anyone who wants to come & meet candidates, get bumper stickers, and/or drink pop & eat hotdogs.
Chances are, Harris put on a little show.
A little show...like riding a horse maybe :)
Where on Dale Mabry?
That is a very important question :)
I wish I owned the rights to that photo
A straw poll at a political picnic? In Lakeland?
Well, it's all over now...
It was a straw poll for cryin' out loud. Did you not read that part of it, or do you think Katherine "fixed" the straw poll?
Anything can happen in a straw poll, but it is a good sign.
My wife and I have sent in our Absentee Military votes and are proud to say it was Katherine Harris we gladly voted for.
its 'cause of the horse pictures I tells ya! :)
Why is it that I see ads for Nelson on TV constantly, but I haven't seen anything by Harris yet (Tampa Bay area)?
Indeed. It may earn Harris an extra vote or two, depending on the answer.
MEMO FROM DOMENAD TO SELF:
SELF: Just in case. Buy set of pasties ( XL? ) to cover appropriate portions for use at High Noon on Dale Mabry.
Lakeland is the largest city in Polk County, which went for President Bush in 2004 by about 60% - 40%. Plus, Harris' father, who recently passed away, was a huge mover and shaker in Polk business and politics. If Katherine Harris couldn't win a majority of a vote here, she's truly sunk.
