BELGRADE, Serbia, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- A Belgrade court Monday sentenced three men to 30 years in prison for killing Serbia's warlord Zeljko Raznatovic.
One of the three was in a courtroom of the Belgrade District Court and two men, who are not in custody, did not show up to hear the verdict and sentences, the Serbian news agency Beta reported. However, the two delivered closing speeches Thursday at the end of the trial that lasted more than six years.
Presiding Judge Milenko Cvijovic sentenced five other accomplices to a total of 30 years in prison for abetting the killing of Raznatovic, also known as Arkan, the Serbian nationalist paramilitary leader who led his notorious Tiger units in ethnic wars in Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia's predominantly ethnic-Albanian Kosovo province from 1991-95.
Reportedly one of Serbia's wealthiest men who piled up his fortune during the five years of wars in the former Yugoslavia, Arkan was killed Jan. 15, 2000, in a Belgrade hotel lobby.
Arkan the uber-gangster. Good riddance.
