Yeah, but Carter was Nixon's fault. Without the stupidity of Watergate, the GOP doesn't get squashed in Congress in 1974 AND Governor Reagan easily beats a VP Ford (as VP, he wouldn't have the power to do to Reagan what he did as President) and then the Dem (I doubt that Carter gets the nomination without Watergate) to become President in 1976.
I was thinking pretty much the same, but not aloud. None of us want further harm to befall the country, but it would be folly not to realize that the country still hasn't "got it".
Perhaps we will retain either the House or the Senate. Perhaps we will lose both. No way to tell when the media has taken a blood oath to resist conservative reform, and still holds the propaganda weapons to make good on that oath.
Itis pretty much out of the individual voter's hand now. Fortunately, it won't be long now until we see what the future brings.
Terrible as this is to say, perhaps the masses of voters need a chance to elect those wonderful Democrats who will save the economy from it's terrible resurgence, sit and reason with the intellectual Al Quaida, and care enough to enact new federal programs to forbid inclement weather.
Maybe that is what is fated, and we truly need as a nation to have our heads thoroughly beaten into the cement before the survivors finally collectively realize that life is real, and that the only reason we managed to forget that for so long is that several generations before us paid such a huge price to hand us the birthright... which we are eagerly trading for Free Stuff.
A new history, perhaps, but still, as you noted, a repetition. Hopefully we won't have spent all of our remaining national capital, before the idea of Free Stuff finally presents its invoice, and people begin to understand.
Hey Time, what are my options? 1) Stay home and turn the country over to communists and America haters who love homosexuality; 2) Vote democrat and turn the country over to communists and America haters who love homosexuality; 3) Vote republican and turn the country over to debt-addicted legislators who now and then send perv messages to pages.
I think I know what I'll do.
I agree completely...... but when I turn to look at the GOP and see the likes of McCain and Chaffee or the leadership turning their back on the one actual GOP candidate for Senate here in Connecticut, then all I can be is disgusted....
The Foley thing, bad as it is, is not the reason I can't stomach most of the GOP lineup any more. It's because they're beginning to look far too much just like the other side...
What's left for us to do?
"the next two years will be one long impeachment hearing"
I know this is sort of conventional wisdome, but I don't believe this for a minute.
I think that the democrats, if the win control of congress will "partner" with Bush, and push through a very ambitious liberal agenda, with Bush using "cooperation and bipartisanship" as the excuse to sign everything the democrats want him to sign.
impeachment will be the stick, funding iraq and amnesty for illegal aliens be the the carrot. Bush will feel quite at home with Democrats in power, and that is what scares me worst of all, not the democrats doing what we know they will do.
I like Tom Coburn a lot, but he is way off base on this one.
Tired of high energy prices? So elect the Rats who'll tax gasoline even more? Tired of illegals running over the border? So elect the Rats who'll expedite the amnesty? Tired of corruption? So elect the Rats who wrote the book on corruption? I think I'm gonna hurl...
You just don't get it. That is not what will happen.
The Republicans have NOT been acting conservative. On social issues, yes. But Christian Socialist nannystating is not what the GOP was founded on, and now they can't hold themselves up as the party of morality, either. It doesn't matter if the Democrats were worse in this area-this isn't about them.
I've said it before and I'll say it again-if the GOP loses they have no one to blame but themselves. And I can't really buy the line that things will be worse if the Rats are in charge-judging from the Republicans' behavior when it comes to fiscal responsibility and border security, the Rats can't do much more damage than the Pubbies already have.
the first two lines reads like the bumper stickers the idiot liberals in NY put on their cars....
Frank Luntz is a discredited pollster who declared on election night that Kerry won.
Remember all the exit polls he was sending to the liberals on election day saying that Kerry was winning that were intended to supress GOP turnout in the west?
That was Luntz's handywork.
What looney thinking! I know that you are much brighter than this!!!
Fine, then vote Conservatives in the Primaries.. Losing by winning is the most idiotic strategy I have heard...
Amen!
This whole Foley thing has convinced me that the GOP really doesn't want to hold onto Congress this year. If they're not interested in staying in power, why should I take the time to vote for them? Maybe 2 years of Democrat control of Congress is exactly the thing to bring both parties back into line. The GOP will learn that when it ignores the reasons they were put into power, they will lose that power, and the Democrats, having to actually run something, will maybe be a little bit more responsible in what they do and say.
"You have more sense than me. I read the first paragraph. We know they are wrong - now it is TIME to prove them wrong - so wrong that they end up as mere dust under our feet"
Everybody's wrong except you.
The fact the GOP is even in a close race with Pelosi and her wicked democrats
tells one more about the state of the GOP today as it does the wicked democrats.
The "New Tone" thing has failed.
Luntz was Kerry's trojan horse buttboy in the last election who was given the task of depressing GOP turnout through disseminating fraudulent polls.
Don't fall for his tricks. It didn't work last election and it won't work this time either.
Oh, I get it now. This is the Democratic Talking Point of the week -- "Republicans will certainly loose the House, it is a foregone conclusion, polls show ...." It has appeared about ten times today alone.
