It has to be their irrigation system spraying the lettuce. The irrigation pumps are probably pumping septic on to the crops.

Yup. Queue the "it's the fault of the illegals" comments.

Ahem! "Queue" means "in a line" as in "standing in a queue."

"Cue" means "alert," as in "cue the news anchor to speak."

Which did you mean?

Illegals poop in the fields then wipe with the spinach/lettuce leaves.

Illegals pooping in a field is not the sort of thing that (in the case of spinach) causes an outbreak affecting what, over a hundred people in 14 states? That fact alone points to a more systemic form of contamination.

What if the illegals pooped in the lettuce field's giant fans that are used to keep the pickers cool?

Stossel pointed out thst most of the orgo freaks don't know a thing about agriculture. Instead of using composted animal manure, they spray fresh human manure in large concentrations on to the crops.

Stupid hippies.

Lettuce Recalled Over E. Coli Concerns

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Less than a week after the Food and Drug Administration lifted its warning on fresh spinach grown in California's Salinas Valley, a popular brand of lettuce grown there has been recalled over concerns about E. coli contamination.

The lettuce does not appear to have caused any illnesses, Salinas-based Nunes Co. Inc. said in a statement.

The company initiated a voluntary recall Sunday of green leaf lettuce purchased last week under the Foxy brand name. Foxy is one of the nation's largest suppliers of lettuce, celery, broccoli, vegetable platters and stir-fry mixes.

The recall covered lettuce purchased in grocery stores Oct. 3-6 in Arizona, California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. It was also sold to distributors in those states who may have sold it to restaurants.

The recalled lettuce was packaged as "Green Leaf 24 Count, waxed carton," and "Green Leaf 18 Count, cellophane sleeve, returnable carton." Packaging is stamped with lot code 6SL0024.

Executives ordered the recall after learning that water used to irrigate lettuce fields may have been contaminated with E. coli, according to the company statement. E. coli can proliferate in uncooked produce, raw milk, unpasteurized juice, contaminated water and meat.

I'm not sure how they irrigate the fields. I'd assume through a pump system using either stationary or moving pipes. I don't know where the water was coming from, well, tank, pond, canal or what...... Not enough info
