Chris Wallace is pretty good, but this one went right past him. Democrats completely lie to avoide answering questions they don't want to answer and then simply get let off the hook...

Congressman Marty Meehan on Foxnews this morning was asked about Gerry Studds and the difference between Studds and Foley. Meehans response was "I was a sophmore (or Senior I cna't remember which) in High School when that happened." Implying that he couldn't be expected to respond to something that was that old and he was so young when it happened. That made me think. I was a junior in High School when that happened and I remember talking about it in our Social Studies/Current Events class. So that guy is my age?? Or within a year of it??

I looked up Congressman Meehan's bio and was he not only not in high school, he had already graduated from the University of Massachusets, where he had majored in Political Science. (graduated in 1978)... As best as I can tell he was in Law School (after having obatined his undergraduate degree in 1978 and a Masters in Public Administration in 1981.

• In 1983, then-Democratic Rep. Gerry Studds of Massachusetts was caught in a similar situation. In his case, Studds had sex with a male teenage page -- something Foley hasn't been charged with.

Did Studds express contrition? Resign? Quite the contrary. He rejected Congress' censure of him and continued to represent his district until his retirement in 1996.

• In 1989, Rep. Barney Frank, also of Massachusetts, admitted he'd lived with Steve Gobie, a male prostitute who ran a gay sex-for-hire ring out of Frank's apartment. Frank, it was later discovered, used his position to fix 33 parking tickets for Gobie.

What happened to Frank? The House voted 408-18 to reprimand him -- a slap on the wrist. Today he's an honored Democratic member of Congress, much in demand as a speaker and "conscience of the party."

• In 2001, President Clinton, who had his own intern problem, commuted the prison sentence of Illinois Rep. Mel Reynolds, who had sex with a 16-year-old campaign volunteer and pressured her to lie about it. (Reynolds also was convicted of campaign spending violations.)

Meehan gave a weasel response. He probably was in HS when the Studds affair happened. The actual sexual affair was in 1973. It wasn't discovered for 10 years.

Wallace should have called him on it.

I was many years a graduate of the U.S. Capitol Page School (Class of 197X) and Studds was legendary as a pedophile in the years immediately prior to his censure, when, by that time, I was working for the Democratic leadership of the U.S. House, when Studds turned his back on the Well of the House when his censure was read.

The comparison is apt, and Studds' crimes far worse, and the coverup by O'Neill (read "Chris Matthews," BTW, who was working for the Speaker in those days) long and nasty.

Brit Hume should well-remember all this since he was ABC's congressional correspondent around that time. He remembers Studds and the coverup.

It wasn't a high moment to have him continue to be re-elected by his Massachusetts constituency (Studds, and O'Neill, too, I suppose)in the year that followed.

Should Pelosi's Moonbats take the House this year, you can be certain they won't spin their victory on this ridiculous "scandal."

Everyone seems to forget that Studds was censured not only for actually having sex with an underage male page (who told the House investigators that although the sex was not coerced, he would rather have had a friendship with Studds without the sex, which he said he "was somewhat uncomfortable with"), but also for hitting on two other male pages after getting them drunk - totally unwanted sexual advances. The House Doorkeeper's office knew about Studds' hitting on the two pages.

People also tend to forget that a number of House Democrats - including many Democrats who would become committee chairmen if the Democrats take control of the House, and the head of the DSCC, Chuck Schumer, didn't vote to raise Studds' penalty from a weak reprimand to censure. Darned straight! I am so SICK of the Democrats so-called outrage over Foley. They are such hypocrites it is breathtaking. Compare what Democrats have done when one of their member’s sexual exploits are exposed to what Republicans do. When it’s a Republican, he’s gone, but the Democrats will make every excuse in the book for their bad behavior. I sure hope the American public can see through these pieces of human debris.

This week, the conservative Washington Times called for the House speaker, Dennis Hastert, to resign now. Let's take a look at what the Times said in its editorial:

"Either he was grossly negligent for not taking the red flags fully into account and ordering a swift investigation for not even remembering the order of events leading up to last week's revelations, or he deliberately looked the other way in hopes that a brewing scandal would simply blow away."

Although Studds was censured in 1983, the relationship with the underage page occurred in 1973. Meehan would have been in high school in 1973 so he is technically right.
