The Talk Shows
Sunday, October 8th, 2006
Guests to be interviewed today on major television talk shows:
FOX NEWS SUNDAY (Fox Network): Reps. Jack Kingston, R-Ga., and Martin Meehan-D-Mass.; conservative radio host Laura Ingraham, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins and Citizens United President David Bossie; retired Maj. Gen. Edward F. Grillo Jr., president of the Air Force Memorial Foundation.
MEET THE PRESS (NBC): Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo., and his Democratic opponent, state auditor Claire McCaskill; journalist Bob Woodward.
FACE THE NATION (CBS): Reps. Tom Davis, R-Va., and Ray LaHood, R-Ill.
THIS WEEK (ABC): Reps. Tom Reynolds, R-N.Y., and Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill.; former Secretary of State James Baker; actress Patricia Heaton, spokeswoman for Cure Autism Now.
LATE EDITION (CNN) : Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari; Sens. Joseph Biden, D-Del., and John Cornyn, R-Texas; former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan.
I understand that in spite of the EW's gas drilling in Colorado is going full steam ahead; with wells popping up throughout the Rockies. Now, if they can get oil drilling going, too -- that may be another story altogether.
I did, too. I also sent a contribution to George Allen.
I'd be happy to help other Republican candidates in need of a cash infusion.
Rassmussen did a poll on Foleygate. Out of ALL respondents, Democrats and Republicans only 36% felt Hastert should go, 64% either did not or did not care.
Pretty much nukes the "Everyone hates the GOP" story line being spread by Donner Party "Conservatives" now does it not?
Then there is this little gem. HERE is what happened after Watergate, the start of one of the worst recessions in US History and Ford pardoning Nixon. Lutz et al are telling us THIS year is going to be worse. Worse? A booming economy? A scandal no one but the Always Angry care about? A war no where near as unpopular as Vietnam is going to result in WORSE fall out for the GOP then 1974?
http://www.ashbrook.org/publicat/oped/busch/06/1974.html
When the votes were counted, Democratic hopes had been realized. Republicans lost 48 House seats, five Senate seats, and statehouse after statehouse. The Democratic scythe cut most deeply in previously Republican suburbs where concerns about the economy and clean government resonated strongly.
One suspects the Donner Party "Conservatives" are merely HOPING it will be worse. After all these are the clowns who gave us the absurd "Win by losing" dogma of the politically suicidal.

The Sunday Morning Talk Shows - The Review
(Remember Mark Foley?)
By Mark Kilmer
Sunday, October 8, 2006.
Mark Foley dominated everything, including the first portion of the Talent-McCaskill debate. The Republicans were mostly on defense, but the Democrats seemed specious on offense. Kingston and Putnam got in some good shorts for the GOP.On NBC's MTP, Russert talked to Senator Talent and his Dem opponent about Mark Foley, Iraq, and human embryonic stem cells. What if you rushed into a burning building and could save only a Petri dish with stem cells or a 3-year-old with juvenile diabetes? (It's a moral dilemma which we as Americans must face every day in your weird little dream world, Tim.)
Congressman Adam Putnam of the House Policy Committee faced Rahm Emmanuel on ABC's TW. Rahm boasted that Gary Studds was immediately censured for his sex with a page, while Speaker Hastert encouraged Mark Foley to seek reelection. Putnam argued that the Speaker reacted proactively and aggressively, forcing Foley to quit in an hour or so. Steph pointed out that he had nothing to do with the Clinton sex scandal, as he left the White House in '96. Rahm, one of Clinton's chief hatchet men during this period, was silent on the matter.
James Baker on TW said that his Iraq Study Group is not using "political terms" like "stay the course" and "cut and run." He dismissed reports that the commission is going to adopt Joe Biden's partition plan, pointing out that it was unfeasible. There often is no physical boundary between Sunnis and Shi'ites, for instance.
Schieffer and Dan Balz, on FTN, had doom and gloom for the GOP. Tom Davis and Ray LaHood put up a nice defense, but LaHood complained that this was taking "oxygen" away from what the economy was doing. It's "getting all the coverage," he said.
On LE, more of the same, maybe worse, from Blitzer and Chuck Rangel, but Congressman Patrick McHenry was able to point out that Tom Reynolds did not ask Mark Foley specifically to seek reelection; rather, he asked the entire Republican Congress to seek reelection because this is the midterm in the President's second term, and historically the other party makes gains. (The press and the Dems thus lie, it has to be said, when they represent this otherwise.

I know, there is a lot of competition in the rat party for dumbest senator, kennedy, pelosi, sheets the list is endless.
I could certainly be totally off base but I believe his poll is wrong. Also misleading. There is NO question a percentage of America will damn Bush regardless of any facts. Beyond that, the voters Democrats are counting on to not vote is really a fantasy, IMHO.
I just got finished reading this and part of the thread and a few others that claim the Pubbies have lost points and the Dims are up (e.g., might as well stay home Pubbies, the Dims are taking over and Pelosi or Murtha will be the next Speaker). I sure hope that this comes back to bite the bums in the bum.
I found this post quite interesting and think you might, too (it was in the US Democrats Lead After Sex Scandal thread (which, btw is contrary to what Rasmussen found)

I also found one earlier during lunch (can't find it right now) that said one of the House incumbents in OR could be in trouble and some of the posts indicate that there are House seats that are flying under the radar - -hope that many of these will be the "November Surprise" ;-)
Also, I suspect it's a long shot, but a 'straw poll' has Harris up in FL - - may be too good to be true, especially since it was at a 'Politics in the Park' function - but it would sure be great if it happened!

This is the problem with Junk Media polls, you have NO idea of their Democrat-Republican mix. IF you polled 45% D 35% R you get one result, if you poll 45-45% you get a completely different one.
Until the Polling firms do a poll that is 48%-48% this all is just noise. EVEN Gallup admitted Republicans were solid in their poll. So it all boils down to turn out. THIS "It all over but the crying" story line is designed to do ONE thing, keep Republicans at home Nov 7th. It nonsense.
Then there is one other thing. OUR October Surprises have not yet been unleashed. Operation Rope a Dem is up and running. These polls are just the usual Democrat Noise Machine attempts to stifle Republican turn out. In 1980 the polls said it was too close to call going into election day.
-
Here are the results:
Ronald Wilson REAGAN
Party: REPUBLICAN
Home State:
PR: CA; VP: TX
Electoral Votes: 489
Pop. Vote: 43,898,770 (50.8%)
James Earl Carter Jr
Party: DEMOCRATIC
Home State:
PR: GA; VP: MN
Electoral Votes: 49
Pop. Vote: 35,480,948 (41.0%)
Pollsters frequently get it WRONG.
Generic polls are some of the worst for predictions. The media and Democrats have spent six years hammering Bush and the GOP. Voters who don't pay much attention or voters who have not really stopped to evaluate person R versus person D are different than generic nobody R or D.
These may not be a prediction for an election as much as how effective their Bush bashing has been on one area or another.
Democrats I know here are still convinced both Gore and Kerry won their elections because they bought the propaganda of these kinds of polls, along with the media polls that were all showing them winning. As Johnnie was pointing out, these polls seem to be designed to depress one sides get out the vote efforts. I would also add they are trying to create momentum for their side, hoping there are a lot of "me too" voters who might jump on their band wagon.
We've got fine analysis on many congressional races, reflections on Foley, details on the various Sunday pundit talk shows, a copy of the infamous "List" of congressional homosexuals, thoughts on the Media, a possible new Republican Spinmeister and a picture that says it more than the proverbial thousand words.
NUMBER 10-Fishtalk
With a blush we begin by nominating our own fine self in a tie for tenth place. For Fishtalk, compiler of this week's awards, is truly seeking a position as Republican Spinmeister.
New Republican Spinmeister HERE
Tell you what.....IIIIIIIIIII volunteer to be the pubbie spinmeister. Give me the job and in 2008 the whole country will be voting Republican. In all honesty, I wouldn't even be winning this award save for the fine response to my job application form by WildIrishRoguecoming in at NUMBER 9.
This is what I would have said-had I been Speaker ;" Why was I supposed to illegally monitor the internet communications between two gay men ? "
"Are the Democrats upset because this involves gay men ? "
" The Democrat party is responsible for the law making a man of 18 legally able to be the bride and or groom in a gay marriage in Massachusetts."
Insight on some big upcoming congressional races and how Venzuelas Chavez won HIS election.
Analysis of Some Upcoming Congressional Races
Tom Kean is 41% to Menendez' 44% today after their debate. I really wonder about the voters in NJ (my appology to any NJ Freepers) electing Corzine for Governor and possibly returning Menendez even though he is under investigation and is a very suspect character.
A picture is worth well a bunch of words. Get a load of this pic of Barney Frank and bask in the irony of it in view of the Foley controversy.
Some excellent transcribing and insight of the Sunday Chris Matthews show and CNNs Wolf Blitzer. Oh, and Rahm Emmanuels tricky wording. On Cnna Situation Room
Hey you guys...I think I'm in love!! With Congressman Patrick McHenry, Republican of North Carolina's 10 District I've seen him frustrate Allan Combs, Chris Matthews, and today he got Wolf Blitzer's panties all wadded up.This young guy has the most adorable impish grin, and he just won't stop telling the big boys in the MSM that Pelosi and Emanuel have refused to cooperate with the Foley investigation. I loved that he quoted Rahm Emanuel today on ABC. Emanuel evidently gave a trick answer,( "I have not seen the emails or ims") when asked if he had any involvement with their exquisititely timed email-im release. Way to go McHenry for exposing Rahm's tricky dodge.
========================
And wouldn't you know, Chris Matthews has to make fun of Tony Snow because of an old radio ad on home repairs, still being on the air. Lets hope what Snow is selling on Bush's war, is better than his selling job in this ad, Matthews mocks. Of course Matthews would want to make fun of Tony, he's no doubt very aware how effective Tony is.
Excellent insights into the Media and how they came to be the enemy. Oh, and the difference between the Dems and the Media. Yes there is one and AB sums it up. On the Media Enemies
That is because in the eyes and minds of today's left-wing activist "journalists", Republicans have been relegated to political enemy. Simply put, the Drive by Media has, not through corporate fiat or any active decision, but through a lessening of ethical standards across the baby-boomer 1960's era activist mindset of journalists today, individually decided Republicans represent the establishment they protested against and must be fought. Gathered together in the newspaper's break room, or at the many cocktail parties and wine-sips or coffee shops they attend, they all spout liberal platitudes, believe and echo the same tired talk that they first articulated in the anit-war protests of the late 60's. Every Republican is the MAN, Bull Conner, Richard MILHOUS Nixon, Rush Limbaugh.
==========================
Democrats are a party that believes a certain political philosophy, that people can accept or reject at the ballot box. And that is fine.
Phsstpok is all over the place with commentary bound to enlighten. Insight is offered on Minnesotas Patty Wetterling, those problem talk show pundits, the upcoming Tennessee races, how the media has Conservatives all wrong and, were not making this up, insight on Republican Gays.
They are using Patty Wetterling, the DFL (Wellstone Stalinists) candidate from the 6th district in Minnesota, as their lead and to set the tone for their handling of la cage aux Foley. Her only claim to fame is that her 11 year old son was kidnapped and "presumed murdered" by an armed man in 1989. Presumably it was a homosexual child predator, "just like Foley," therefore she's an expert.
The problem for Laura and so many others of the talking heads is that they are commentators and they have to have a position to comment on. They are forced, by the requirements of their situation, to take a position from the get go. All too often the right thing to do is say "we don't know enough yet... wait and see."
Why the Media Has Conservatives Pegged Wrong
Samantha comes in the top three for her local insight on the Florida races and the impact of the Foley fiasco. Were Not Abandoning the Republicans:
We certainly are not going to turn power over to Anti-American DemRATS. Mark Foley broke our Hearts, but we have already embraced Joe Negron, and are broken Glass Republicans here in Mark's district.
Excellent summary of the Foley fiasco, FACT BY FACT. Read it and be wise.
FACT: Denny Hastert knew only of the TWO HARMLESS emails two years ago, NOT the IMs, and even the FBI refused to prosecute for the emails because there was NOTHING illicit in them. No one can prove that Hastert knew about any IMs before last week, because he didn't. However it can be proved that Hastert sent people to tell Foley to knock it off after seeing the harmless emails, which even the FBI wouldn't pursue because there was nothing illicit in them. The Democrats and media want to make the emails and IMs the same thing but they just flatly are NOT the same thing. Liberals sat on the IMs for over six months. Let them take responsibility for their actions for a change.
If you read nothing else this morning, check out the posts by Seattle Conservative. Information and insight provided on Foleygate, Rahm Emmanual, Nancy Pelosi as well as quotes from a Freeper with some intriguing information on how the Foley investigation is going in the House Ethics Committee.
And, that readers are constantly updated, quotes and current status of all the upcoming races via the many online tracking polls.
1. they can keep using the old and incorrect saying of how the Pubbies are the 'culture of corruption', 2. they can keep droning on about how the Pubbies are irresponsible because they SHOULD have known and didn't do anything, 3. they use it as the Pubbies don't care about children and don't protect them and they let predators go after them (never mind that the Dims support the ACLU, some support NAMBLA - -free speech don't ya know (the ACLU supports NAMBLA cases, so one could say that Dims also support NAMBLA by way of association)
Refers to Another Interesting Freep post as regards Foley
Have you all seen these posts - looks like something could be breaking behind the scenes (more than I think a lot of us thought):
References a Freeper post on the Harold Ford debate in that Tennessee race:
Yep and Harold Ford was spinning like a top in his debate w Corker last night! Ford's ACU rating is the lowest of any TN congresscritter (I added it to the thread below - 2005-21; lifetime -19)

Hip-Hip-Hooray!!!!!
Great Job, Pat... As always!
Congrats to all, especially our Top 3!!!
Seattle Conservative shining through!!!!
Congrathulations to all! So many great posts and what a good discussion this week. I sometimes (often) look at Phsstpok's great pre-show thread and think oh, geez, more bumbling bozos on the shows this week - nothing too exciting - - who wants to listen to them drone on with all the DNC talking points. But, the FReepers on this thread take what might have otherwise been a boring discussion and turn it into an enlightening, informative and entertaining one!
Thank you - I am very honored.
Congratulations! Well deserved. Also congratulations to all the top posters. Proving again why FR is so great.
I'm thrilled to be considered worthy of being anywhere in the top 10. Thank you .... and Congratulations to the others.. especially Seattle Conservative, I learn so much from you.
Thank all of you for being so darned smart that you keep me on my toes and force me to listen and to think. I only wish we didn't have the time difference and I could spend even more time on the Sunday thread, it's my favorite.
