Johnstown Sunday paper: Local guys with global mission
Beam and Minnick much like Murtha have deep roots in the region Johnstown Tribune-Democrat [EXCERPTS] Why would two guys you had never heard of take on political powerhouse John Murtha? Harry Beam, a Vietnam War veteran, and Craig Minnick, who served in the Persian Gulf, say they are not interested in political debates. The believe that the congressman was wrong to call for a withdrawal of troops from Iraq, and wrong to publicly denounce Marines charged with murdering civilians at Haditha, Iraq. That's why they worked together to organize the "Boot Murtha" rally held last Sunday at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena... Beam and Minnick -- much like Murtha -- have deep roots in the region... Minnick pointed to the "Veterans for Murtha" rally held last Saturday in Central Park. That event, he said, featured speakers with no ties to the region or the 12th Congressional District. "There was a misconception that (the "Boot Murtha" rally) was Larry Bailey's group out of North Carolina coming into town," Minnick said. "If I'm not mistaken, the 'Vets for Murtha' group is led by a former senator out of Georgia (Max Cleland). So when I hear Gov. Rendell speaking about how these 'outsiders' need to go home, I'm confused. I guess he thinks Georgia is part of Pennsylvania." >>>read entire article |

The real facts in these elections show us A pretty pathetic letter. A rant of supposed facts trying to play on the emotions of people. He wouldn't know a fact if it bit in the rear.

Just A Nobody, I am traveling and just checked this post, but I wanted to say this:
We Tennesseans booted Jim Sasser after he had had a long cushy job in D.C. It can be done.
I am in Alabama at a convention for outdoor communicators and a lot of folks here are talking about Murtha. I told them I had sent Dianna money, plan to send more when I return home. You'd be surprised at the support she has from across the country.

I'm glad they printed this letter. What a joke!
Murtha is considered a hawk by many, and is as strong as they come on war issues.
Considered a hawk by who, or is it whom?
Strong on war issues????? Really??? What issues would they be?
1983: Beirut = Cut and Run
1993: Mogadishu = Cut and Run
2005: Iraq = Cut and Run
What war issues is he strong on.....besides Cut and Run?
died because of failed Bush policies<> What failed policy is that?
I know that Murtha has been there for this family.
If this is true, than I say thanks Jack! What about all the other veterans in the district that Johnny ignores? What about Craig Minnick? Is johnny boy there for Craig?
The rest of this "alleged" letter is too stupid to comment on. It sounds like the young commies that I see protesting on the streets of DC spewing their nonsensical rhetoric to prove their ignorance. The only thing he left out is the final battlecry.................
HALLIBURTON!!!

Well, from this line I have determined Mr. Vega is not a very informed voter.
I've voted for U.S. Rep. John P. Murtha since 1994, my first election as a Johnstown resident. I did so because I liked his style of quiet leadership, moral authority
Clearly, in 1994 Mr. Vega was unaware that Murtha was an unindicted co-conspirator in the ABSCAM scandal.
Irey has the same amount of time to convince me that she's something more than an "anti-Murtha."
Short of a home visit, what would you like Mrs. Irey to do, Mr. Vega?
Thanks for providing the letter with e-mail address Smooth. I think I'll go e-mail links to Diana's websites. ;*)

If a person feels that strongly about issues of the candidates and those candidates haven't made them clear to him, he should go the extra mile and find out for himself, that's why candidates have offices. Well said Jaz!

We Tennesseans booted Jim Sasser after he had had a long cushy job in D.C. It can be done. Thank you and your fellow Tennesseans! You give the rest of us hope!

WooHoo!!! Thank you so much for this positive report! How long will you be there? Someone could overnight some fliers to you. LOL!
Please tell them to go to www.irey.com and contribute to Diana's campaign. It will cost money to get the word out about Murtha.
Have a great time and safe travel!

Here is another "Letter to the Editor" from the
PittsurghLIVE.com-Daily Courier. Murtha supports vets
Saturday, October 7, 2006
I have known Congressman Jack Murtha since 1999 when I commanded the Walter Reed Health Care System in Washington, D.C. I can state, based on personal experience, that his strong and consistent support of military medicine and of wounded members of the armed services and their families has been outstanding.
Murtha enjoys the strongest reputation among all the senior uniformed leaders I know for his courage, integrity and knowledge of the military. He is the most effective advocate for its needs.
Michael A. Dunn, M.D.
Davidsville
The writer is a brigadier general, U.S. Army, retired
I cannot speak for troops that were in WR in 1999, but I can tell you that I have not found any wounded warriors today that feel Murtha is supportive of them.
Then again, I haven't visited with the "senior uniformed leaders" that Dr. Dunn knows.

This should make Murtha very nervous, because after all as has been rightly said, politics is a local thing. Exactly.

Let us hope the momemtum continues in getting out the real Murtha to the 12th district.
If the Irey campaign can somehow show Murtha for what he is,and at the same time come over as not being nasty just stating the facts, perhaps it will be enough.

Just got home JAN. By the time I posted you (my sister lives where the conference was and I posted you from her house) the events were over.
But I can tell you, Dianna is BIG newes in the circles where I run, and Murtha is dead meat. I bet she sees a spike in donations soon, as I talked her up to a LOT of people. They all were aware of her, but hadn't considered sending her a (even if small) donation.
