In a relatively uneventful debate Saturday night with no clear winner, Phil Angelides, the state treasurer and underdog Democratic candidate for governor, may have come out ahead by simply sharing a stage with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
"At least he'll be in the same news cycle (as Schwarzenegger),'' sighed one labor official who is supporting Angelides.
Analysts noted Saturday that the debate may have marked one of Angelides' first -- and last -- chances to make an impression.

After that silly title, the article more or less summarizes the debate.
I think Arnold did extremely well and Angelides didn't score any points and "being on the same stage as the governor" isn't going to help him.

The Drive By Media keeps deluding itself. Let 'em.

Most of the analysts are liberals. They'll take Arnold if they have to but first and foremost they're mouthpieces for the Democratic Party.

While walking down the Embarcadero in San Francisco today on my way to see the Blue Angels I passed a guy with a big "Labor for Angelides" lawn sign in the back window of his sedan. He parking in a "Reserved For Port Commissioner" spot at the Ferry Building.
As I walked past I told him that he needed a bigger car.
Right in front of his wife and kids he screamed words to the effect that I should go perform a sex act on myself.
They know they're backing a looser.

LOL!
But his reaction is typical of liberals. I hope he wasn't actually the Port Comissioner.

Just a few month ago they were all saying that Arnold had only a 30% approval and he was in deep trouble! I was just laughing at that. Arnold will win by 20 points in a giant land slide.
It is not even funny how bad the Medea lies about the race. Arnold could grab more tit* on TV and he would go up in the polls. I guess he struck a nerve when he called them girly-men

Mike Hardeman (right side of Pelosi photo) is an SF Port Commissioner.
He's curently embroiled in a sub-standard city cement construction scandal in SF.

San Francisco has some really weird people... I never go there without being armed... the place gets stranger and stranger every time I have been there...

Angie only scored point with those who were going to vote for him anyway (as they always vote for a lib/against a conservative). Delusions of Grandeur doesn't win elections.

"At least he'll be in the same news cycle (as Schwarzenegger),'' sighed one labor official who is supporting Angelides. A telling characterization by the Chronicle... Angelides is so doomed even labor is sighing hopeless that even just getting Phil mentioned with Arnold is a campaign highlight!
My neighbor turned off the debate and began reading through the state ballot book. He's voting NO except on one (undisclosed) so far, mentioning he has a few more to read.
He's a Zell-Miller-style Dem.

I wonder how many of Arnold's critics noticed last night he defended his '05 reform agenda saying they were good ideas, he just took the wrong implementation approach.
His admission of "mistakes" were about strategy, not the reform agenda. Should he be reelected decisively I hope he revisits to those issues. He did highlight the need for more accountability in education which was one of the pillars of reform.
I wish there was a snowball's chance in Death Valley of getting more GOP legislators elected.

Personally, I think we'd all be better off if Angelides wins. CA is about to go down the tubes economically, and it's going to take the governor, whoever it might be, with it, as well as the governor's party. Let's face it, CA has written so much debt, there is no way it will ever be able to pay it off.

Arnold is also a liberal. The Lefties will vote against Arnold not because he hasn't befriended them but because he is a Republican. That still marks him as "the enemy" no matter how much he helps to advance their agenda. And it bears reminding he is no conservative.

Yes, I realize that Arnie is no conservative (not a true one anyway). But the alternative is so much worse. Another election where I have to hold my nose when voting. I'm getting real tired of these elections in CA.

Gray Davis was not so bad. At least his brand of extremism clearly delineated the issues. Schwarzenegger has blurred them.
Angelides would bring back the "Glory Days" of Gray Davis.
