Democrat. In this district, the only contest is between the leftist Democrats, the far leftist Democrats, and the so-far-left-they-Hilary-is-a-despicable-moderate Democrats.

The last time a Republican won this seat was in 1960. For the past 26 years it's been occupied by Congressman-for-Life Martin Sabo, who's retiring this year. For a Republican to win this district again would require a reversal of 46 years of demographic changes, Great Society policies, and suburban migration.

Where I live, we call Minneapolis "Enemy Territory," and we're only half-kidding. We only go there when we absolutely must, which isn't often, and when we do drive there, we roll up the windows and lock the doors.

And lately we've only been going there in my husband's beat-up old SUV, because I got tired of having my car keyed, presumably because of its Republican bumper stickers.
