Little debate, much sniping (Tx Gov Debate)

DALLAS — The only debate of the Texas governor's race Friday rarely pushed the four major candidates beyond their campaign rhetoric as they tried to portray each other as unfit for the state's highest office.

The statewide televised event before a panel of journalists was more of a joint news conference than a debate, but the candidates did snipe at each other over taxes, toll roads, ethics and racially tinged remarks.

After reading this, it sounds like it was a Perry victory. He certainly did't lose, and the others sounded like they weren't ready.

Yep, Perry victory.

Which is sorta like saying the UT beat the Nacogdoches Dragons and Lufkin Panthers and the Gladewater High School Band.

A question for you Texans, please.

What kind of cigar is that 'Kinky' guy smoking in that television ad he runs?

They showed the ad on CSPAN for us non-Texans.

(Now back to the main thread. :-) )

Yeah, that's pretty much my take. Part of the problem was the questions; focusing on Friedman's racial remarks was a waste of time. I didn't hear a followup on how appointing Willie Nelson to anything was a serious solution.

Bell turned out to be the non-entity that the polls have been showing.

Name of the week did make a point about the property tax "reduction", but the gov ain't the dictator. However his commercial on the reduction is right out of the stock yard. Otherwise she came off like the loon she is.

So yup, I'd say Perry won by not losing. What a poor pool to choose from this year.

And please, all supporters of the Kinkster please explain his policy positions on _anything_ and explain how it's good policy. That is other than being a clown that doesn't have a grasp on a long neck, much less the issues of the state. Maybe he should be the minister of semi-funny quips, but gov material?
