Democrats launch new Foley offensive against Republicans
CNN ^ | 10/7/06

(CNN) -- Democrats used the Foley scandal to turn up the heat on Republicans on Saturday, a month before congressional elections that put control of the House and Senate at stake.

The Democrats devoted their weekly radio address to the matter, accusing the Republican leaders in the House of ignoring then-Rep. Mark Foley's "obvious predatory signals" in order "to protect their political power."

Foley, who quit as a Florida representative last month, is said to have sent sex messages over the Internet to teenage boys who had been congressional pages. Republican leaders, including Speaker Dennis Hastert, are accused of knowing about Foley's behavior and not stopping it.

Patty Wetterling, a candidate for a U.S. House seat whose own son Jacob was kidnapped when he was 11 and never seen again, spoke on behalf of the Democrats.

"We need to stop the sexual exploitation of children across the country, and in Washington we must hold accountable all those complicit in allowing this victimization to happen," said Wetterling, a Minnesota child safety advocate .

Great Article!

I completely agree with you. It was interesting last week after Hastert's presser that the real take away was he didn't know of the IM's til the previous Friday and Foley immediately resigned. What did the MSM report? "Hastert says he's sorry"

No way he should step down. For one, he's not guilty of anything and secondly, stepping down will confirm he's guilty of something. The media would have a field day.

I read this article too. It seems so obvious. In the run-up to the election the Democrats keep doing the same thing...they have nothing to run ON they just want you to vote AGAINST.

It just shows how empty they are. Little stunts like these ( Wetterling ad and radio spot for Dems) just make me wonder how weak minded the Democrats think the public is. In all this I want to know what their policy is for Iraq....yada yada yada....

Again these short term little forays they come up with seem like alot at the time but it is no more than what Rush refers to as Drive bye....or how about this...the Democrats have become the car bombing insurgent party ( metaphorically speaking) that has nothing to stand for but hating the opposition.

Hows that?

If you are from Minnesota then write a letter to the Red Star (or whatever local MSM you have) asking Wetterling the question a Freep asked in #22 "If elected Ms. Wetterling can we expect you to ask for Barney Frank to resign?" You might also try repeating that question on talk radio in MN too. Also you might suggest to Wetterling that these Congressional Pages are not children, they are 16 and 17 years old not 11. They have enough smarts to say "Yes" or "No" to a predator.

When are Republicans planning to fight back?

Gee, President Bush takes on the media and refuses to accept liberal premises. His numbers go up.

Calling out liberals and taking on the news media = Republican success.

I agree-unity is what we need now, not intra party bickering. To be honest, I think the Dems are overplaying this hand...

I'm sorry, but they're not overplaying their hand at all. It is being remarkabely effective. It's been one week since this incident and the major news media (including Fox) is still leading their newscast with it. It's time for Republicans to fight back. Call out the news media for what they are. Call them out by name, and refuse to accept their premise. There is still a lot of hope to hold the Senate and the House, but only if we start fighting back NOW.

They have already obsolved themselves from Barney Frank because everyone was an adult. And I really wish people would quit referencing other Democrats that have done hanus things because we give validity to their argument by saying in a sense " well what about your bad guys".

Let's quit talking about what they did ...because as far as morality goes they have no leg to stand on..and they know it. So we have to rely on the sanity of the American People.....just ask them ...even after all this which party is the party of morals?

And the Dems knew all about foley for how long?

This is an orchestrated attack by the House Dems to win it back. It is the lowest form of politics.

Has US politics reached this bottom feeding point?
And what is sad is that they look like they will win doing this.

Lawrence O'Donnel is claiming that Hastert lives with Scott Palmer, his Chief of Staff.

"If Fordham did warn Palmer about Foley a long time ago, what are the odds that Palmer did not tell Hastert? As close to zero as you can get. Many chiefs of staff are close, very close, to their bosses on Capitol Hill. But none are closer than Scott Palmer is to Denny Hastert. They don't just work together all day, they live together.

There are plenty of odd couple Congressmen who have roomed together on Capitol Hill, but I have never heard of a chief of staff who rooms with his boss. It is beyond unusual. But it must have its advantages. Anything they forget to tell each other at the office, they have until bedtime to catch up on. And then there's breakfast for anything they forgot to tell each other before falling asleep. And then there's all day at the office. Hastert and Palmer are together more than any other co-workers in the Congress."

They do, they share a town house together when he is in DC. But Hastert goes home every weekend.

By the way, I think the townhouse is shared by 3 or 4 staffers. So what is your point?

Unfortunately, the dem blogs...are implying it's a gay relationship.

Also, that creep Mike Rogers posted this this morning:

"Mr. Speaker, I have a point of information...

Hey, Dennis, on Monday I'll be telling everyone about the high level closeted staffer in your office."

Well, hell, I thought the Dems were pro-homosexual? They backing away from that now?

Anyway, they are not the only ones in the townhouse. Sorry, no fire here (as if anywone ever saw any fire in Hastert )

The Republican response should be to point out that Foley is already the hell out of the House and to contrast that outcome with the career of Congressman Gerry Studds, D-Mass., who boinked a 17-year-old male page in 1983, then got reelected to six more terms and got married in the first week of Massachusetts gay marriage.

Mr. & Mr. Studds, with admirer
