House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert's chief of staff confronted then-Rep. Mark Foley about his inappropriate social contact with male pages well before the speaker said aides in his office took any action, a current congressional staff member with personal knowledge of Foley and his behavior with pages said yesterday.
The staff member said Hastert's chief of staff, Scott Palmer, met with the Florida Republican at the Capitol to discuss complaints about Foley's behavior toward pages. The alleged meeting occurred long before Hastert says aides in his office dispatched Rep. John M. Shimkus (R-Ill.) and the clerk of the House in November 2005 to confront Foley about troubling e-mails he had sent to a Louisiana boy.
The staff member's account buttresses the position of Foley's onetime chief of staff, Kirk Fordham, who said earlier this week that he had appealed to Palmer in 2003 or earlier to intervene, after Fordham's own efforts to stop Foley's behavior had failed. Fordham said Foley and Palmer, one of the most powerful figures in the House of Representatives, met within days to discuss the allegations.
Palmer said this week that the meeting Fordham described "did not happen." Timothy J. Heaphy, Fordham's attorney, said yesterday that Fordham is prepared to testify under oath that he had arranged the meeting and that both Foley and Palmer told him the meeting had taken place. Fordham spent more than three hours with the FBI on Thursday, and Heaphy said that on Friday he contacted the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct to offer his client's cooperation.
"We are not preparing to cooperate. We are affirmatively seeking to," Heaphy said.
Hastert spokesman Ron Bonjean declined to directly comment on the second House staff member's assertion, saying that it is a matter for a House ethics committee investigation.

From what I've read, several ex-pages said they got IMs, stretching back several years. Do you think the pages are lying and created them all in June of 2006? And if so, why the heck would Foley resign?
And why did Foley resign? Well, he saw something happened, and knowing he's drinking too much, thought he was at fault for not remembering it all ~ a black out, so to speak. This was probably not his first one either.
You betcha' an intelligent man would check himself into rehab (even before calling his lawyer).

Ok, I read the post, but, I don't think you're saying this was Foley, are you?
Well......and the other several hundred people or so that might read this post.
We can all keep a secret. Promise.
I think the homosexual staffers see their careers are now evaporating or at least now a dead end.
This means they have nothing left but whatever deals they can cut.
IOW they will not get a job at Human Rights Campaign or some other homosexual group unless they go against republicans whether true or not.
Once he was in THEIR clutches, they did what they wished and then killed him.
That's why the argument that Foley was after young, but adult homosexuals, and was not therefore a pedophile, simply has not been demonstrated satisfactorily.
This guy was careful. He went through pledges AFTER they'd left the program, but while they were as young as they could be ~ and therefore more likely to have contact with younger children.
They were also OUT OF TOWN.
He wasn't messing with anybody still in the DC area.
Foley shows all the signs of someone who uses older teenagers to do his cruising for him among the pre-pubescent kids.
I'd look for some bodies, but that's just me, and that's just because these guys caught and murdred a child who used to play safely in front of my house.
Well, I've mentioned it before ~ shortly before John Dean sued Liddy. Don't want to go through that sort of thing. But, rest assured, it's in the archives.
They'll also have to blow (bad word choice) the whistle on all their little friends though. I doubt any two of them can keep to the same story though.

I'm sure there are many good kids in the page program .The New Orleans page sounds like one of them.
However, we are talking about an 18 yr old, Jordan Edmund, who frequently and happily wrote to a 52 year old man that:
He has a 7 and a half inch penis-erect.
He masturbates face down in the bed.
He cleans up the mess into a towel.
He has sexual fantasies about people in Catholic school uniforms.
He has sexual fantasies about people in casts.
And he can't wait to see Foley- " kiss, kiss."
At the same time that Edmunds was masturbating to images of people with broken legs and describing this to Foley- he was also old enough to have enlisted in the military and been deployed to Iraq.
I have no sympathy for Edmunds- he's a scumbag either way- gay or straight.
He was neither a kid nor innocent when he maintained an internet relationship with Foley.
But, I do have enormous sympathy for the true child victims this week- the Amish children murdered in PA.
It's too bad that they're not as interested in finding the facts when the facts lead to Democrats. Instead of quieting down, they should continue to follow the story, since the story is not over yet.
