Man Beaten To Death In Low-Security O.C. Jail
(CBS) SANTA ANA, Calif. A Mission Viejo man awaiting trial on suspicion of possessing child pornography for sale was beaten to death in a jail unit for low-security inmates, an Orange County sheriff's representative said Friday.
John Derek Chamberlain, 41, was "murdered by an inmate or inmates while in the shower" at the Theo Lacy jail in Orange, the department's Jim Amormino said.
Guards got a call of a "man down" about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, and Chamberlain was declared dead at a hospital about an hour later, Amormino said.
Investigators were interviewing some 140 inmates, he said.

You're a pusillanimous priss!
Did I spell that correctly! Hope I got an A+
It means soooo much to me
(SARCASM SCREAMINGLY ON)
If you caught it, how did it fail????
I agree with you on this one!!!
Ahh, isn't that just too bad, these guys ought to have their sentences shortened for doing good for society.
Because the comparison was flawed and majorly so. If you don't see that, then perhaps you should brush up on your logic.
I put this on the other thread but this one seems to be more lively -
I am not for mob justice and the man deserved a trial and if convicted this should have been the sentence.
A society that will not protect its children from predators is not a society worth having. I am sick and tired of seeing child predators or those obviously pre-disposed to such behavior (Captain Shiny Pants who confessed to Jon Benet ring a bell) get off with a slap on the wrist or probation. It is sick!!!!
I think any child sex offense should automatically carry a death penalty when the evidence is overwhelming. The article said the guy possessed child porn that the deputies found... it looks bad for him but I agree he still had the right to a defense and jury trial.
Take Joseph Duncan from Idaho who murdered a family, kidnapped two kids who he brutally raped, made videotapes, killed the little boy, and was later found with the little girl. Why do we need a million dollar plus trial at taxpayer expense for this guy? He had already been convicted of a child sex offense so why did he even get out of jail the first time? Why does the little girl have to be raped again by a trial and endless appeals when the evidence if overwhelming?
I am not for trials in overwhelming cases....
"I am not for trials in overwhelming cases...."
Question for you: Who determines what kinds of cases are overwhelming cases?
Your story sounds an awful lot like the plot for the movie "My Cousin Vinnie".
Point taken, and while I understand that sentiment, it doesn't even begin to justify what happened here based on the facts.
"Question: do the inmates there have the right to beat you to death or not?"
I think you're taking my amusement at this a little too seriously.
DISCLAIMER: I believe all people accused of a crime are entitled to a fair trial and should not be subjected to vigilante justice. HOWEVER, I reserve my right to be amused by vigilante justice should it occur.
Good post, good points, but tell me - who makes the determination on "overwhelming" when dispensing with trials?
It's a slippery slope, my friend, one I'm sure you don't want to find yourself on.
CA....
You mean like: If all accused are innocent till proven guilty and all guilty have been convicted then all mobs are guilty???
Police pull over the wrong people all the time. People who are innocent do get accused of crimes.
Our Bill of Rights protects us from the abuses of overzealous police officers and prosecutors. The downside is that it also protects the rights of those who do commit crimes... but I would rather have the system we have in the US than any other country in the world.
By the way, I do feel that the death penalty should be an option for people who do things to children (so don't think I'm easy on child predators), BUT only after a trial.
A judge.....
when your semen is found inside a child and you are with the child you have some serious explaining to do if it is determined the child is raped
In the case I referenced I believe the man made videos of himself and the children engaged in sexual acts. He was found with the child who survived and was in possession of the murder weapon and the video camera and tapes.
In light of that fact... why should the taxpayers pay a million plus dollars to try and convict the guy? Let a panel of judges review the evidence and if they determine it is overwhelming the man should die IMMEDIATELY.
Why should we spend a million dollars plus for a trial of this guy? He was already a registered sex offender and it is an overwhelming case.
kin A!
"Good post, good points, but tell me - who makes the determination on "overwhelming" when dispensing with trials?"
Bingo.
