Man Beaten To Death In Low-Security O.C. Jail
(CBS) SANTA ANA, Calif. A Mission Viejo man awaiting trial on suspicion of possessing child pornography for sale was beaten to death in a jail unit for low-security inmates, an Orange County sheriff's representative said Friday.
John Derek Chamberlain, 41, was "murdered by an inmate or inmates while in the shower" at the Theo Lacy jail in Orange, the department's Jim Amormino said.
Guards got a call of a "man down" about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, and Chamberlain was declared dead at a hospital about an hour later, Amormino said.
Investigators were interviewing some 140 inmates, he said.

"Ddon't you know everyone in jail and prison is innocent. EVERYONE."
That's not true!
I read last night on FR that 98% are guilty as charged.
If our law system worked that way, you wouldn't have people in jail awaiting their day in court.
If you are to be presumed innocent before a trial, then you should be free to walk home after being given your notice to appear.
But, I do agree, the prison population should at least wait until perv's are convicted, then they can do what they want with them.
A Freeper who is condoning vigilante justice and murder of a man held in custody and awaiting trial is a creep IMO. The condoning of murder of anyone goes beyond a mere difference of opinion. This Freeper's comments are offensive and should not be acceptable on this forum.
It makes FR look like a collection of vigilante kooks.
Two wrongs don't make a right, my mother always said.
Your mother is correct, however I don't consider stating the obvious as wrong.
Perhaps you could spend some time reading this person's offensive remarks and then preach to the rest of the freepers who have posted the same feelings about his commentary. Furthermore, if you don't like what I have to say don't read it.
A false accusation could change that.
Fine. Let's say this happened to me. My point is, why would the authorities look for kiddie porn on my computer to begin with?
I'm saying that if a guy is arrested for molesting children (or whatever), the prosecutor gets a warrant, searches his computer and finds kiddie porn, I doubt that the guy's going to have much luck in claiming that some hacker downloaded it while he wasn't looking.
That's not what happens.
The people that distribute kiddie porn hijack private computers that are poorly secured and use them to distribute their illegal data. That way, they, the actual source is very difficult to find. When law enforcement tracks down a particular server on the Internet by tracking down the IP being used to distribute it they find a computer sitting in someones home. The owner of said computer has no idea that their computer has been hijacked and doing what it is doing.
It isn't nearly as strange as you may think. For a long time MS Windows has had numerous serious security holes that has allowed people to search out poorly secured machines and use them for their own purposes.
"It doesn't make a difference if he was guilty or not. Punishment is the courts responsibilty, not a prison mob."
Exactly. And have you ever noticed the lack of forgiveness that is overwhelming our society today. The idea that no one can change their hearts and their ways. Like their can only be one motive in a persons heart. Like no one ever haven committed ceartin crimes has the right to ever be forgiven. These people who lack all forgiveness are one day going to be judged by their own standards. And it is not going to be good for them. Jesus said...."If you do not forgive then you I will not forgive you". Some people should take a lesson from the Amish.
And these people are being thrown in jail for possession of kiddie porn? Is that what you're saying?
Yes. Some have been.
Are you crazy? The guy wasn't convicted yet. It sounds to me as though the prisioners in this low security facility needed to be in a higher security facility
