N. Korea Ceased Most Diplomatic Activities at UN

China dismayed by N. Korea's behavior

(New York = Yonhap News) Kim Kye-hwan = We have learned that N. Korea had virtually no contact with UN Security Council while it was drafting a statement of warning against N. Korea.

UN sources told us on Oct. 6 that N. Korea showed no interest in the Council's adoption of the statement. Such an attitude even made Security Council worried, which will further isolate N. Korea.

They said that N. Korea is not even talking to China. China also appeared to be quite dismayed by it.

According to them, since last July, when the Security Council adopted a resolution against missile launches, N. Korea made few diplomatic contacts with the council. When the resolution against missile launches was adopted, Park Kil-yon, N. Korean ambassador to UN, did attend the UN Security Council and advanced N. Korean view, but this time around, no N. Korean figures showed up.

They say that this is in stark contrast to the occasion when (N. Korean) human right resolution was adopted. N. Korea showed lots of activities then. Any country, even if it is not a member of Security Council, can attend its meetings, if it expressed its intention to join. N. Korea did not even expressed any such intention.

A country like Iran reacts promptly to any movements in the Council involving its own interest. N. Korea showed so little interest in the latest adoption of Security Council statement that it even made the member nations worried about N. Korea's isolation, the sources added.

N. Korea maintains UN mission in New York. Ambassador Park is in charge of UN matters, while Vice Ambassador(?), who used to be Han Sung-ryol, but now Kim Myong-kil, is in charge of U.S. matters.

Well, all those diplomats must be deeply saddened. N. Korea made them completely irrelevant. That is quite an insult to these folks who wallow on endless conferences, horse trading, and backroom deals. For once, N. Korea did something good.:)

This is especially true for China, who, as playing a mediator between U.S. and N. Korea, is trying to milk as much concession as possible from U.S.. Now Chia Head quit the talking game, reportedly blaming China as a traitor. No wonder China is dismayed. Its little scheme is cut short by its rabid dog.

All these make it really certain that Chia Head will set off a nuke (or nukes.) That means that Oct. 8 or Oct. 10 in S. Korean time could be a really interesting day. I said for over two years that Chia Head would eventually set it off, and apparently he will.

The more Korea threatens the world with nukes, the less free handouts they should receive.
If they want to stabilize their country, they'll have to get rid of the communism.

The NK people and NK military need to rise up and overthrow the regime.

Then they can talk about reunification.

Honestly, I don't even think it's the communism. There are plenty of communist countries around the world and for the most part we can safely ignore them. North Korea is a lunatic regime.

If China was really dismayed, they'd take out Ding Dong Bell. He's their pet weasel.

I agree, the Chinese are the ones pulling the NK strings on this. They could have and would have gotten rid of any NK leader who didn't do their bidding.

Kim John Il is also pissing off the KGB agent in the Kremlin. And if history tells us right, that usually does not end well.

The Chinese sends Kim aid on Chinese trains and Kim won't return the trains. He's a real ding-bat.

This is why KJI must be deprived of his nukes. Those, like Maddy Albright, who think that this dingbat is only interested in the preservation of his regime, and can be approached on that basis, are dangerously naive. The boy is nuts, and it looks as if he's made up his mind to test a nuke come hell or high water. How else can he get the respect he so richly deserves without a functioning nuke?

Whether he indicates a willingness to "negotiate" after that, I don't know. I suspect that the failure of the TAEPO DONGs really made him "lose face", and only a successful nuke test can get his face back.

If China sealed it's border with North Korea, letting no food or fuel shipments into Kim-land...

...then North Korea would quickly grind to a complete halt.

While that wouldn't actually stop a nuclear test, it would definitely paralyse the country. Which is a significant amount of leverage to wield in forcing the North to give up it's nuclear program.

Besides, if Lil' Kim wants to call China's 'bluff', then China can starve the North Koreans to death, significantly reducing the manpower pool available for any future war.

While America would lose it's nerve doing such a thing, China probably wouldn't have any problems starving to death a few million stubborn North Koreans.

:-)
