More Wild Assumptions in the Latest AP/Ipsos Poll?
The latest AP/Ipsos poll shows that George Bush's approval rating is 38% among registered voters, and 39% among likely voters. (Poll results here.) (Pdf file)
http://www.ipsos-na.com/news/client/act_dsp_pdf.cfm?name=mr061005-2toplinerevised.pdf&id=3210

The poll also shows the Democrats enjoying a 16-point lead in the generic congressional ballot among registered voters (54%-38%), and a 10-point lead among likely voters (51%-41%).

Asked if they would rather see the Dems or Repubs control Congress -- regardless of their vote -- registered respondents preferred the Dems by 21-points (55%-34%), with likely voters preferring the Dems by 17 points (53%-36%).

This does not appear to be good news for the Republicans.

However, a closer look at the composition of the poll's respondents reveals that when asked which party they leaned toward, the respondents broke down 54%-38% in favor of the Dems among registered voters, and 51%-41% among likely voters.

In other words, the composition of the poll's respondents -- in both registered and likely voters -- matches exactly the results of the generic congressional ballot.

For historical comparison, in the 37 presidential elections since 1860, only three Democratic Party presidential candidates have won a majority of the vote with a margin of 10% or more: FDR in 1932 and 1936; and LBJ in 1964.

3 out of 37.

Yet the AP/Ipsos poll assumes such a breakdown of the electorate exists today.

That's interesting, non?

Budget Deficit Drops Nearly By Half
Interesting news out on the Budget deficit (the annual short fall of revenues to costs of running the government). Apparently the economy is so hot it nearly cut the deficit in half from the projection back in February:

The federal budget estimate for the fiscal year just completed dropped to $250 billion, congressional estimators said Friday, as the economy continues to fuel impressive tax revenues.

The improving deficit picture _ Bush predicted a $423 billion deficit in his February budget _ has been driven by better-than-expected tax receipts, especially from corporate profits, CBO said.

So our deficits are dropping like rocks, taxes are low, unemployment is low [down to 4.6%], inflation is low and the DOW is at all time highs. And the Democrats want to change the direction of the country ….

Yeah, right.

Stephen Jones Demands I pull the Jordan Edmund Story

I got this email yesterday:

Dear William Kerr and Passionate America:

Please be advised that I represent Jordan Edmund. It is our understanding that you and Passionate American are identifying Mr. Edmund with certain Instant Messages ("IMs"). You have indicated that ABC News mistakenly published these alleged Ims and that you should not have been able to obtain this information. Whether this is true or not is beside the point. Without any foundation or legal permission, you are stating that our client is the person associated with the Ims. Neither ABC News nor Brian Ross have been error free in their reporting in the past. You should not assume that they are correct now. Like all individuals and institutions, they occasionally make mistakes. Therefore, I respectfully demand that you cease any further efforts to identify our client with these alleged Ims and cease publishing such information on Passionate America. Neither you nor Passionate American is authorized to use any photograph of him, his name or his personal information. You should consult with an attorney who is experienced in civil and criminal liability regarding the internet. If you are correct that ABC News should not have released the alleged AOL screen name and that ABC News has risked civil and criminal liability because of the unauthorized release, then your republication of the unauthorized release likewise exposes you to possible liability.

Sincerely,

Stephen Jones

So I have contacted some of the people I have met in the past few days for advice. My view on this is I have already published the story many people have put this on their websites also. Much of the main stream media has put the story out. The cat is out of the bag. Is Stephen Jones going to send these emails out to thousands of people? I believe I have done nothing wrong legally, until I hear different from people smarter than me I am going to treat this as a threat and leave everything on the website. I could use your help; do you know anyone that can help me? Send me an email.
