The iconic Ground Zero beam known as The Cross was transferred yesterday to St. Peter's Church at Church and Barclay Sts. The Cross is actually a T-beam, one of many that connected floors in Building 6.
But it is so much more than that.
The beam is a sign that God never abandoned us during and after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Despite some objections to The Cross, it is not meant to offend non-Christians. It is a symbol of faith - faith in God, faith in people. All people. If the image offends, then so too must the crosslike formations of the city's telephone poles.
The Cross is a reminder that the city has triumphed over terrorism. It must be included in the Memorial Museum. For those who disagree, think of The Cross not as a religious symbol, but rather as the last remaining artifact of the sacred ground that is the World Trade Center site. Allow it to be a reminder to the good citizens of this city and of the world that hate has not robbed us of the best that we are, but has instead fostered our faith in the overwhelming goodness of people.

The Cross was the ONLY thing that kept me going that day!!! It gave me HOPE and did remind me that Jesus was with us.
This was one of the most moving things we saw at ground zero during our visit there this summer.

Why should it offend? This is a country with a Christian background, and everybody here knows what a cross means. I can't believe the good father would even think it was "meant to offend."
5 SOLAS!
Bye bye sweet cross. You mean a lot to me. Sorry to see you go. Sorry you'll probably not make it back. And if you do, it will be in a manner entirely unsuited to your memory.
I had the honnor of kissing this cross.
No, it simply means that the great majority of us in this country recognize what is meant by the Cross: mercy, eternal life, forgiveness, etc. If these offend, well, I think there's a problem there...with the offendee.
i'm old,tired and dense?
explain,please!
5 solas!
BUMP!
What lowlife scumbags wanted to move it to the airport? They should be immediately fired.
I am a Jew, and I am not only NOT offended by the cross, but believe it is far too important to be relegated to a museum, and should take a central place of importance at the new WTC site, with an area for prayer around it if possible.
Welcome to the FR.
great to have your comments!
i for one have no symbols to justify my salvation through the lamb's sacrifice.
check my profile page and then come back and discuss faith!
