Death of a President Killed by Cinema Bosses

A new movie that depicts the death of President George W. Bush looks likely to flop at the box office after being snubbed by America's biggest cinema chain.

Distribution firm Newmarket Films snapped up the rights to controversial faux documentary Death Of A President after it was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, and has moved quickly to ensure it is released at the end of October - ahead of the November 7th elections.

But bosses at Regal Entertainment Group are refusing to show the film. CEO Mike Campbell explains, "We feel it is inappropriate to portray the future assassination of a sitting president, regardless of political affiliation."

Regal has been joined by Cinemark USA and executives at other chains are still considering whether to screen it.

But Newmarket bosses insist it is successfully placing the movie in a number of theatres.

Distribution consultant Richard Abramowitz says, "Every day during a busy time we are picking up plenty of screens. We're getting a good reception in a lot of places. No matter how tight the screens are, once a film has success, it's always easier to get more screens."

The only theaters that are going to show it are going to independent theaters in heavily-Democrat urban centers, all the other theaters know that if they show it they can count on a large percentage of their customers not being customers again for a long long time.

"We feel it is inappropriate to portray the future assassination of a sitting president, regardless of political affiliation."

I'd agree with that statement even if it was a Clinton hit job. Good job Regal.

"Republicans go to movies, too".

I think that this was motivated more by the almighty $$$ than by any patriotism. But, it also enables them to take the high road, and that's fine.

I agree. They aren't stupid. They know it (they) would be boycotted with all the force that made "The Passion" a hit.

This demonstrates the Hollywood trash would show a video rape of their own mothers or daughters if it would earn a couple of dollars. There is absolutely no taste left in Hollywood and the audiences should avoid theaters, like the plague, in protest.

It's not "Jackass, the Movie."

It's "Jackass, the Film Industry!"

This is a good measure of how degenerated our society has become. We are left with a society of perverts and sickos who define a photograph of a Crucifix in a jar of urine as "art."

Thanks. Well, at least it wasn't the exact same story, and it wasn't posted last week... I should have searched for "Bush Death Film", I guess... :-)

IMO there is too much danger of some lunatic trying to make his/her mark in history by fulfilling this wet-dream of the raging liberals.

The Left wants to kill our President. Al Qaeda wants to kill our President. They are both our mortal enemies. Allies in the war against freedom.

Artsy fartsy Liberal "movies" like this one get "awards" from the artsy fartsy crowd but normally do not make much money. They usually rely on government grants to create this garbage for their girlyman, artsy fartsy, popcorn munchers.

Strange to through that in there. Kind of like, "guy's we hate Bush too, but we can't do this."

Regal is a HUGE chain in Southern Cali and you can bet the farm that if Regal showed this film here; Regal would be boycotted BIG TIME!
Contrary to what people outside the state think,
those of us outside of WLA & SF are conservative and we don't play when it comes to BS like this.

Regal knows which side their bread is buttered on.

....and a "couple of dollars" is all they apparently feel the need to make, being rich as Croseus & all.

That's why they suck. They'd much prefer to stand around parties clapping each other on the back for their oh-so-edgy urine and feces depictions, than actually making a real story.

I hope they don't screw up "Flags", as it is now, we're lucky to get one 'watchable' pic per year, let alone an actual old-time blockbuster.
