Budget Deficit Drops to $250 Billion
AP ^ | October 6, 2006 | ANDREW TAYLOR

Posted on 10/06/2006 10:19:40 AM PDT by West Coast Conservative

The federal budget estimate for the fiscal year just completed dropped to $250 billion, congressional estimators said Friday, as the economy continues to fuel impressive tax revenues.

The Congressional Budget Office's latest estimate is $10 billion below CBO predictions issued in August and well below a July White House prediction of $296 billion.

The improving deficit picture _ Bush predicted a $423 billion deficit in his February budget _ has been driven by better-than-expected tax receipts, especially from corporate profits, CBO said.

"That was candidate Clinton's chant, right!??"

Yes indeed, that was Comrade candidate Klintoon.

I live in Atlanta. I read the Atlanta Journal and Constitution. They have editorials about once every month about how the tax cuts are causing a deficit. They get away with it. They are liars of the first degree. They are dishonest journalists. They are also ignorant journalists. I have e-mailed them and told them the truth. They are not interested. When they use the First Amendment to lie, they are they worst kind of citizens.

"Remind me again why we worked to get the Republican party in control of the White House and Congress?"

After 40 or so years of Dim control of Congress, we had plenty of ugly history to reflect on. If the Dims regain control of the House, Rangel has already promised to attempt to wipe out all the Bush tax cuts, Miss America has promised the same plus virtually every other beneficial change made by the Pubbies. Oh, and by the by, the Dims have some cool ideas of their own that they would like to implement, such as nationalizing health care, declaring the U.S. in an emergency and installing martial law with Her Thighness in control for life.

Need any more?

"History will judge xlinton for what he was........NOTHING. (actually, far worse than that).

President Bush will be judged as a leader who kept the economy going and eventually thriving under fierce attacks from without and within, all the while waging a war against an evil enemy, in spite of having an opposition party working against him in every possible way."

I sure do wish you were right, but, IMHO, you're not. Dimocratz write the history books that are purchased for Dimocrat controlled schools, i.e., all the public schools. GWB will be marginalized while Klintoon will be lionized and none of Bubba's negative activities will ever be in print.

Sad but, I'm afraid, true.

It wasn't that long ago that I remember the first (non-wartime) $100,000,000,000 budget.

HEW? If you're referring to the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, it hasn't existed since the Carter Administration.

Sorry, Buehler went to a baseball game at the DU Stadium.

"Didn't BJ leave Bush a huge deficit? I thought that was the reason why we're still running deficits."

In the first two years of their presidency hillaryandbillary were in the process of destroying the economy. In 1994 Newt and group took control of the House and implemented the balanced budget amendment which prevented the Klintoon Kafka crowd from screwing things up further. They proceeded to have a balanced budget each year, but that didn't solve the existing deficit issue - you're right.

GW is coming close to balancing the budget but the deficit still remains as an issue.

"yes, the last year of Clinton ended up in a deficit, I believe, but rather small."

i was asking cumulatively, not just the last year. I believe that BJ Clinton left Bush a humongous deficit in the aggregate. Maybe higher than the current 300 billions?

I might agree if you are talking about near history books written by xlinton sycophants, but sooner or later the worship of the debauched one will end, and true history will be written.

It is only then that the perspective will be accurate. Bush will be judged as the hero that he is, and Clinton, the dangerous fool.

"They proceeded to have a balanced budget each year, but that didn't solve the existing deficit issue - you're right."

So he left a surplus?

Clinton cannot solve the current deficit - he's no longer the president. But if Hillary becomes president, I think she gonna follow in her partner's (I hate to use the word husband when speaking of The Great Stainmaker) in BJ's footsteps.

You realizd that if we were not at war in Iraq and Afghanistan the deficit would be at 150 billion!!! Not bad considering the situation.

The budget deficit disappeared in the late 1990s because the Republican Congress put in controls on spending. Clinton had nothing to do with it.

But, if the D's were in control of both Congress and the Presidency instead of the R's, it would of been at zero a long time ago! (Sarcasm off)

I'm afraid in your weakened condition you may take a nasty fall down the stairs and subject yourself to further absences.

I do see you with Ferris Bueller quite a little bit.

"""Bush seems to be very insecure trying to win friends that will never like him"""

You are 100% correct! Bush has proven he will sign almost anything that gives money to groups who hate him. I have never understood it or liked it.

The only excuse for a deficit that is legitimate IMO is the war in Iraq and even then we should tighten our belts rather than borrow the money. We should also help the Iraqi's pump enough oil to pay for their "liberation" and the civil projects we have done over there.
