Pelosi: Former FBI Director Wrong Man To Lead Page Program Investigation
(AP) House Speaker Dennis Hastert said Thursday he is looking for a high-caliber figure to step in and fix flaws in the congressional page program that left the teenagers vulnerable to sexual advances.
Hastert was on the verge of naming former FBI Director Louis Freeh, who boasts a long, high-profile career in law enforcement, for the post. But the speaker held off because of objections from Democrats.
Hastert had called House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday to notify her that he intended to hire Freeh to overhaul the program, their aides said. But Pelosi suggested it was too soon to make decisions about changing the program, and that Freeh might be the wrong man for the job.
That's about public relations for the Republican leaders, it's not about protecting the children, Pelosi, D-Calif., said in an interview with The Associated Press. It smacks of 'blame the victim.'"

Thanks!
I've been reminded by all this of a joke I read decades ago -- possibly in the late 50s when I was too young to grasp the implication (but it still struck me as funny).
A farm girl went out to milk the cow. Her mother saw her talking to a city slicker type, and yelled at her to get in the house -- she knows she's not supposed to talk to strangers. "But, ma, he says he's a U.S. Congressman." "What??!! You'd better bring the cow in the house too!"

When Hastert announced Freeh's name on TV yesterday, I actually LOL'd....and then started shaking my head. The only thing Freeh has going for him with non-thinking conservatives is that he had a falling-out with Clinton. This kills his "neutrality" thing right off the bat. It's okay that Hastert is pushing for a Clinton-hater, but wouldn't it have been a little more subtle to choose one that's still in the closet.....so to speak? Good thinking.
I was in favor of Freeh because he IS real pissed at the Clintons. But you have given me more to think about.

Freeh proposal was a warning shot. He knows where the bodies are buried on supressed election crimes of Clintons.

Hoekstra wants investigation ASAP. Someone better hurry up.
I think the FBI may just come up with some interesting stuff very soon.

I think the FBI may just come up with some interesting stuff very soon. Do you know precisely what they're investigating? Is it just Foley? The "plot" to get Foley? Any abuses of pages?

Maddening, isn't it, that Hastert allowed Pelosi the power to block his decision on Freeh?Extremely! Will these guys EVER learn? EVER?

Unfortunately correct. The Republican leadership just seems to be blind to how being wimps affects the base. Their endless seeking approval from those who seek to destroy them is almost pathological.

Supposedly, Freeh wanted bypartisan support. I can understand that. He probably didn't want to deal with the screeching Dems if they were unhappy with him.

Hope so. I want the dems to have time to present their 'plan' before the November elections.

What is Pelosi trying to hide if she doesn't want the FBI involved? Smells as bad as her face lift looks... I keep saying this stinks to high heaven of having dem hands all over it, now that they don't want the FBI involved in it, it just confirms my suspicions.

THIS is why I am so upset with Hastert.
I liked him until this scandal.
But, he has proven to be completely inept.
