I liked Mellencamp's music when he was a rocker. But sometime in the 80's he published an album called "Blood on the Plow" and began to fancy himself a singing sociologist. He also denounced his early hits like "Jackie and Diane" and said he was ashamed of it. My girlfriend told me she was at a concert in Colorado and some biker threw a can of beer at Mellancamp, hit him in the head and knocked him cold. She thought that made him become goofy.

yep his music was pretty back then "Jack & Dianne" etc, then after that it sucked big-time ever since, pretty much the same thing with Billy Joel for me, his album I think it was called Glass houses.. was pretty good, then just about everything after that stunk!

"some biker threw a can of beer at Mellancamp, hit him in the head and knocked him cold."

I was at a Billy Idol concert in OKC, and he was rocking away punching his fist forward in his proverbial stance, and somebondy arc'ed a bottle of beer and hit him in the forehead shattering it. He starting slowly falling backward doing the windmill action with his arms to try and keep his balance but he still landed flat on his back. A few seconds later he got up and blood was pouring down his head. He said F--- you OKC, and then started throwing his fists out to the music. Crazy.
