no, let's not over-reach here - Foley should have resigned - the issue of criminal behavior aside, Foley was supposed to be the adult here.
Even an unfounded accusation by a minor about these kinds of offenses is enough for many to give up and run away, because the press is against uyou, and in these ki9nds of accusations, everyone believes the victim, no matter what, and in a sense, you are guilty until proven innocent, and no one believes your denials.
I understand why he quit. Even if this came out before he quity, his name would be Mudd no matter what.
There was ongoing murmors among the pages that labeled Foley as a closet homo who was overly friendly with pages.
The prank was on Foley and Foley took part of the supposed real IM chat. Hence his problem is still there, a closet homo with an affinity with younguns.
The problem is now there is a little issue with who had these IMs, when were the IM obtained and what type of lawsuits will this lead to if the Jordan character is indeed the conservative prankster.... Tune in.
Foley might have been able to survive had his party closed ranks around him as the Democrats did around Barney Frank, Studds, Bill Clinton, etc. But there was no way the Republicans were going to do that. I'm not saying it was good or bad; just an observation.
I would say the Republicans were very effectively mau-maued here, and not only by the Democrats.
