According to two people close to former congressional page Jordan Edmund, the now famous lurid AOL Instant Message exchanges that led to the resignation of Mark Foley were part of an online prank that by mistake got into the hands of enemy political operatives, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.
According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well, Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded an unwitting Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats.
The primary source, an ally of Edmund, adamantly proclaims that the former page is not a homosexual. The prank scenario was confirmed by a second associate of Edmund. Both are fearful that their political careers will be affected if they are publicly brought into the matter.
The prank scenario only applies to the Edmund IM sessions and does not necessarily apply to any other exchanges between the former congressman and others.
The news come on the heels that Edmund has hired former Timothy McVeigh attorney, Stephen Jones.

I'm 17, and when anyone...boy or girl...is trying to come on to me, I can tell from a mile a way...both Foley and the kid are sick. But Foley was a member of the US House of Representatives. He should have known better.

I would guess that Edmund has retained a lawyer because he'slooking at the possibility of being charged with entrapment, if he did this deliberately and he was over 18 when he did it. At the outside, is there any possibility he was actually blackmailing Foley with what he had?

If your son got caught from some stupid prank that he and his friends did years ago, and his name was splashed all over the internet, AND he hears the FBI is probably going to be interviewing him. Wouldn't you advise him to get an attorney?
Even if he was baited into writing these IMs, we still have a problem; he still wrote them thinking that the former page was underage. The Dems can still pound the GOP leadership on what they knew about Foley and when did they know it. True the leadership can also pressure the Dems on why they sat on these IMs for so long if they were concerned about the pages, but if the leadership had wind of some of Foley's sick extra-curricular activities (and I don't think they did) we could still have some problems.

We have the high ground? Sigh...I am totally shocked that people don't get it. What else can be said...Foley needs to go to jail for all of this. Underage is underage. Who cares about this one kid being 18 during PART of all of this. He was under 18 at other parts of it.
