According to two people close to former congressional page Jordan Edmund, the now famous lurid AOL Instant Message exchanges that led to the resignation of Mark Foley were part of an online prank that by mistake got into the hands of enemy political operatives, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.

According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well, Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded an unwitting Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats.

The primary source, an ally of Edmund, adamantly proclaims that the former page is not a homosexual. The prank scenario was confirmed by a second associate of Edmund. Both are fearful that their political careers will be affected if they are publicly brought into the matter.

The prank scenario only applies to the Edmund IM sessions and does not necessarily apply to any other exchanges between the former congressman and others.

The news come on the heels that Edmund has hired former Timothy McVeigh attorney, Stephen Jones.

However, Foley, still thought he was contacting a young boy...even if it were a prank or not. Same as when a person is attempting to hire a hooker and the hooker turns out to be a cop. The cop wasn't a hooker...but the guy thought it was.

The intent was there...even though the hooker wasn't a real hooker.

Not sure what this "prank" aspect really accomplishes. Someone explain.

Glad you're not God. I don't tolerate the twisted evil, and hate the gay agenda, but there's still a person there needing redemption. Alittle compassion goes a long way.

As I said, I have 17 year old son and have raised two more beyond that age. When they were 16, they were no longer kids. They were tough, strapping young men. By the time they were 17 they were adults in every physical sense of the word.

A little late to the party ( and no, I won't ever catch up, but that's okay ), but thanks for the ping. I heard about this on Rush and thought about everything we had been uncovering about this mess, all week, here. I've been saying that after RATHERGATE, you'd think that ABC and NBC would have learned to not pull something like this. Obviously, they learned nothing.

Brian Ross is now as believable as old Danny boy Rather. ABC is covered in muck. That's two down, how long will it be before NBC gets RATHERED?

And the Dems are NOT going to take either House, in November!

The Democrats hoped they would have. Foley resigned because at least he has the dignity and decency to do such a thing. As you said, Foley beat Hastert to the punch, which suggests he wasn't pressured out.

That's something I hadn't considered - Foley falling on his sword might have saved Hastert.

Foley deserved his fate under conservative standards.

But for the raving 'Rats the hypocrisy is breathtaking and the details are relevant -- here we have the party that insists upon gay scoutmasters and teaching sodomy to elementary school students telling us that one adult male engaging in salacious exchanges (not even sex, mind you) with another adult male is so incredibly vile, etc.

Again, by our standards Foley is indefensible and it's good that he's gone from the House, but by 'Rat standards he not only should enjoy at least 6 more terms ala Gerry Studds but should become a party "conscience" ala Barney Frank...... it's the raving hypocrisy of the libs in the DBM and Demagogue party that's so nauseating.
