Hawaii Democrats Pay for Foley Scandal

Sen. Daniel Inouye Named in one of “Top Ten” Sex Scandals By Andrew Walden, 10/4/2006 11:18:09 PM

Evidence is emerging that Democrat operatives may have held transcripts of resigned Florida Republican Congressman Mark Foley’s salacious instant messaging conversations and emails for months if not years in hopes of using them in an “October surprise” in order to defeat Republicans at the polls.

The danger posed to underage Congressional pages is obvious -- but what is only now becoming evident is the danger to sitting Democrat Senators and Congressman as old sex-scandals re-emerge.

The media frenzy is having unintended consequences for Democrats here in Hawaii. One example is renewed media interest in a scandal involving Senator Daniel Inouye (D-HI). In recent days the Washington Post has included mention of an alleged 1975 incident involving Inouye which came to light in 1992:

See http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/special/clinton/congress.htm

“Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) - In October 1992, Republican Senate nominee Rick Reed began running a campaign commercial that included a surreptitiously taped interview with Lenore Kwock, Inouye's hairdresser. Kwock said Inouye had sexually forced himself on her in 1975 and continued a pattern of sexual harassment, even as Kwock continued to cut his hair over the years. Inouye, seeking a sixth term, denied the charges. And Kwock said that by running the commercial, Reed had caused her more pain than Inouye had. Reed was forced to pull the ad, and while many voters took out their anger on the Republican, Inouye was held to 57 percent of the vote – the lowest total of his career. A week later, a female Democratic state legislator announced that she had heard from nine other women who claimed Inouye had sexually harassed them over the past decade. But the women didn't go public with their claims, the local press didn't pursue the story, and the Senate Ethics Committee decided to drop the investigation because the accusers wouldn't participate in an inquiry.”

Based on the same incident, Dan Inouye is named one of the "top 10" Democrat Congressional Sex scandals by Human Events magazine.

http://www.humanevents.com/lists.php?id=17357

“10. Sen. Daniel Inouye. The 82-year-old Hawaii Democrat was accused in the 1990s by numerous women of sexual harassment. Democrats cast doubt on the allegations and the Senate Ethics Committee dropped its investigation.”

Democrats are hoping that they can use the Foley scandal against Republicans in the November elections. But this is not 1992 nor is it 1975. The story is playing out on the Internet, not in 30 minute nightly news broadcasts from ABC, NBC and CBS. The days when “the local press didn’t pursue the story” are over.

Fox is drifting more and more towards the status quo.

I used to have the tv turned to FOX all day long. Lately, I cannot bear to hear the shoddy reporting and sensationalizing of this story. Five little girls were executed in a one room school house and the news channels ignored it in favor of Hastert, not Foley, but Hastert.

I think I know more about this story than any professional journalist getting paid mega bucks to investigate.

I wonder if this "info" isn't from the 500 F.B.I. files...procured by the Clintons.

Otherwise unless there is someone special on the Talking Head shows I don't watch anymore. I get my news from Free Republic and Various Bloggers!

The Democrats are also posing as the party of fiscal restraint and balanced budgets, and the party of national security. Now they claim to be standing on the moral high ground. It would be a joke if there weren't so many rubes who actually believe this.

Who is the Dim Rove? Bob Mulholland?

Whoever it is didn't cross his Ts -- between reminding everyone just what a cesspool the Democratic party is the turn around on accusations of "hypocrite" for interfering with the privacy between two adults, this is becoming a net plus for our side.

And now that the issue is out there, Jim's observation comes into play: we have to remove people who may prey on children. We can point to Foley when we remove gay teachers and the like.

Blowback, indeed! :)

Foley was a DEMOCRAT, then changed to REPUBLICAN.

Did he do so , at the suggestion of DNC, so that when or if he was exposed it would damage the REPUBS?????

I know, I am just paranoid.

As Jim Robinson suggested yesterday, its good to see the Democrat Party taking this predation seriously. Now, how about the Boy Scouts, etc ?

Lets not get misdirected by the age of the pages. Faggotry is an immoral learned behavior that can be stamped out like it has in the past.

Americans with common sense are going to
realize that this whole Foley scenario is
intended to "shock" the ultra-Conservative
GOP base. Just look how far the Democrats
have escalated their scandal exposes since
outing the 20 year old DUI charges against
President-elect Bush!

There's still time for this to backfire on the Democrats. It all depends on how effective the Republicans intend to be.

Inouye is next up for election in 2010. Who knows if the man will even run again. Even if he does, Hawaii won't dislodge "Mr. Hawaii"
