In a busy day of campaigning today, President Bush made two fundraising appearances starting with a reception for Representative Rick Renzi in Scottsdale, Arizona where he also signed H.R. 5441 - the Homeland Security Appropriations Act funding the border fence - and then a reception for Colorado gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez in Englewood, Colorado. In his speeches he emphasized the importance of electing Republicans in the interest of our nation's security and strength.
Also today First Lady Laura appeared at two Republican fundraisers, one for Representative Curt Weldon in Springfield, Pennsylvania, and later for Representative Tom Reynolds in Amherst, New York and was interviewed on a youth radio station in Buffalo and attended a mock trial.
In addition, the Bush economy achieved new heights today as the Dow closed at 11,850...........the highest in history!
Today we are doing a special tribute, not only to our great President, but also to our friend and fellow Freeper, Tony Snow. If you'd like to contribute comments, we welcome your input, but we ask that all comments remain positive toward both the President and Tony to keep this our 'Sanity Island.'
This is for you, Tony...............you are a perfect compliment to the President whom we deeply respect and admire. You are a Godly man - witty, intelligent and combative in a gentlemanly sort of way, just as he is, and have proven to be the perfect spokesman for President Bush. You are, as he is, a joy to watch as you defend the facts against the onslaught of seemingly braindead pseudo-journalists' attacks disguised as questions, and we smile every day as you clean their intellectual clocks in defense of the President's strong, well reasoned, pro-American policies.
Many of us have prayed for you through your illness, thanking God for your recovery, and as you made the difficult decision to leave broadcasting to become President Bush's Press Secretary, and we thank God for not only your health but also your decision to sacrifice much to serve your country as you serve the President.
We know that you are self-effacing and humble (another characteristic you share with your boss), and won't take credit for the changes in style at the White House, but we also know that you have had a hand in a stronger, feistier White House presentation, and for that we thank you.
On this thread we express our deep and well-founded admiration for President Bush daily, but on this day, we have chosen to include you in our tribute to jobs well done.
Thank you, Tony, for all you do for your country, your President, and us!
Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose! These are great times to be a Bushbot..........AND a Snowflake!!
I've never seen a moniter in the oval office pictures
I've never seen a moniter in the oval office pictures
How much paper/ink do you have for your printer, Deb? This will drastically increase the length of the Dose! :)
My first exposure to Tony was when he would sub for Rush occasionally. I've said this before, but Tony's voice could calm and center me regardless of what kind of day I was having. I used to wish he had his own show, and a few years later, he did... and since last year I had 6 full months between jobs, I had the chance to not only listen to his show, but to make wonderful cyber-FRiends in the process. And Tony would actually join in our conversations! The SNOW-Flake thread was the most fun on the forum... next to the Dose of course and now the Levin thread.
I've prayed for Tony during his cancer and never stopped... just as I pray each day for President Bush. For our President, it seems each day he needs our prayers more than the last.
Tony and W are alike in many ways... their devotion to family and appreciation for doing what's right, for example.
Kipling's poem fits both of them to a tee.
IF
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!
--Rudyard Kipling
While the rest of the world is falling down around us, the words of these two precious men calm and center us, just as Tony's voice did for me several years ago.
God bless you, George W. Bush
God bless you, Tony Snow
from an American who appreciates you both beyond measure.
Hey..........glad you could be here, onyx!
What a great dose ohio-
I first started listening to Tony on a regular basis when we got XM radio - he became "must listen radio" from the get-go. My husband and I would listen avidly to his show every day and what "Tony said" became a common thread in our discussions. I can still remember the sick feeling in the pit of my stomach the day it was announced that he was fighting cancer. Just as I remember the joy that I felt when it was announced that he had completed his treatment and was returning to the show. I thanked the Lord for answered prayers and continued to listen to his program every day.
Little did I know that the Lord had big plans for Tony, bigger than his daily radio show and I thank God for his all knowing, all seeing ways. Just goes to show you the LORD KNOWS BEST!
I believe in my heart of hearts Tony is being watched over and guided every time he takes the podium to beard the press beast in its den. Lord knows he needs it with that bunch!
God bless you, Tony. God bless your family and know that there are FReepers out here who have your back on the Presser threads!

President and Mrs. Bush........you inspire us ALL to more beautiful things!
Thank you for loving the Lord, this great country and its people............and EACH OTHER! We are blessed by you!
I've thought he's lost weight too. I just hope it was intentional. His is a tough job, but he does it beautifully.
Beautiful post, Fudd Fan! The poem is PERFECT!
And I thought he had a full head of hair now! ;)
PERFECT . . . just PERFECT!
The President and Mrs. Bush are indeed an inspiration to us all!
thanks for the great Dose tonight ohio.. LOVE the green on laura! She has a little Irish twinkle in her eyes in green, me thinks
I would guess that's intentional. I think he looks great.
I can remember a few years ago swear boxes as we call them in Britain were popular at work and often the proceeds went to a charity or were used for a treat for the department.
That's high praise, as I so admire your heartfelt posts and prayers. Thanks so much, oWf.
Correct there is also one of various members of the press wearing them.
I thought you'd like those!
The green looks great on her!
