Probably for the same reason we don't hear Hollywood Christians denouncing Gary Busey for appearing in a Turkins muslim film, and do hear Hollywood Christians denouncing Mel.

Gary Busey is Gary Busey, Mel Gibson is Mel Gibson, one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.

My guess, even though I haven't seen the press coverage, Mark Foley isn't the only 50s male to solicit over the internet.
