Spain, of all places. They have completely forgotten their own history, and how many of their ancestors died to throw off Islam. El Cid, Ferdinand and Isabella all spinning in thier graves.

Now that is some serious irony.

Hey Spain! Forget the planned attacks. Forget the actual attacks you suffered. Stopping these celebrations will really make them like you and respect you (until they come up with their next grievance in about, oh, 15 minutes).

I guess they figure their heritage is not worth outraging the muzzies over.

Hasn't Bin Laden stated one of his major goals for Al Qaeda is the return of Andalusia (Southern Spain) to Muslim hands? Can't you just see him smiling in his cave/dung hut over this?

Do the Spaniards realize that they are on the list because they exist on so-called Muslim lands? It has nothing to do with burning effigies of any kind. The fact that they're there is the affront. If they go wobbly now, they will be re-subjugated.

Spanish villages are abandoning the centuries-old tradition of burning effigies of the Prophet Muhammad for fear of offending Muslims

What has happened to their instinct for survival? They are doomed.

"Spanish villages are abandoning the centuries-old tradition of burning effigies of the Prophet Muhammad for fear of offending Muslims."

Muslims aren't worried about offending Spanish villages. They will blow up trains and burn churches and not one of them will ever worry that it might offend Spanish villages.

This is why Spanish villages will die and Muslims won't. Muslims have balls and Spanish villages don't.

And it's not a fear of offense, it's a fear of violence. We just ask that they be honest.

When you no longer believe in anything, it makes it harder to oppose those with strong beliefs. Real Christians in old Catholic Spain would have no trouble burning effigies of a phony prophet who spread much misery through the world. Even non-believers who believe in Spain and free market capitalism would not mind celebrating one of Spain's historical victories over the forces of evil. But the post-religious bohemians don't believe in anything except muddling through life, and so when faced with an implacable foe, they fold easily.

I'd like to see a "Red Dawn" movie that shows what an Islamic takeover of a western nation would look like. Maybe it would wake a few people up.

Wow. Spain should just cede all their land back to the Moors and commit suicide now, rather than committing a slow 20 year cultural suicide.

Europe is pathetic.

Gen Franco was right. He said that after he died, the atheists would take over Spain.

I happened to see part of a SciFi film last night about genetically altered scorpions loose on a plane...and was amazed to see Muslims used as comic relief of all things! They weren't the bad guys, heaven forbid. Just standing in for the old Stepp-in-fetchit role. Surely they'll be offended when they figure out they 'got no respect'.

The should rethink burning effigies. It contributes to global warming. < /sarc >

But pinatas are very celebratory.

Las Fallas is a festival in Valencia when they parade these huge and beautiful sculptures in the streets, and then burn them right in town.

This is a link to the images on google:
