The young son of a woman who has taken refuge in a Chicago church delivered a letter to the White House Tuesday, hoping to enlist President Bush's help in keeping his mother from being deported to Mexico. The handwritten letter, which 7-year-old Saul Arellano gave to a White House staffer outside the gates, requested a meeting with Bush to discuss allowing Elvira Arellano to stay in the United States, said Robert Lopez, spokesman for the Chicago immigration-rights group Centro Sin Fronteras. Saul Arellano, who is an American citizen, traveled to Washington with Emma Lozano, executive director of the group, and was scheduled to return today, Lopez said. On Aug. 15, Elvira Arellano was supposed to surrender for deportation. Instead, she sought refuge at the Adalberto United Methodist Church. On Friday, a judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by the pastor on Saul's behalf, which contended the boy's rights would be violated if his mother was deported.
Bush will probably intervene and hire her as a housekeeper or something. (not really sarcasm)
No one just walks up to the White House gates and hands letters to people to be delivered to the Prez. This had to be approved from within. Either that, or the "staffer" should be fired immediately for participating in this farce. I love my President, but his handling of immigration issues has been a huge disappointment.

That is a much more civil way of putting it than I would have.
Send in a couple of ICE officers--not the SWAT-style jackbooted ones, just a couple of relatively non-threatening types--and haul her out. If people block the doors, start arresting them and haul them off until they get to her. There's no need to go Waco on this situation, but that woman needs to have her ass back in Mexico in about 24 hours, and the kid too if he's not an anchor baby.

I don't care where she is holed up. She is a criminal and should be arrested/deported. I'm sorry the government doesn't have the balls to do its job.
Her whole argument is based on the fact that he is an anchor baby. She chose to come here and have a baby so she could jump to the front of the line and stay (playing us for suckers). This is why birthright citizenship has got to go. No one is saying the kid has to go, just the mother. All this is the result of deliberate actions on her part. I agree that getting her out of here needs to be accomplished in as low-key a way as possible.
Yep. So you send a couple of windbreaker-wearing types in there to get her out peacefully. No need to go Janet Reno for one illegal alien, but she DOES need to get visibly removed from that church and taken to O'Hare or Midway, and immediately thrown on a plane back to Meheeco, with her child either put on the plane with her, or put in foster care (mother's choice).
And I agree 100% that birthright citizenship MUST be ended. When they talk about "comprehensive" illegal alien legislation, normally most Hill types mean "a guest worker program, amnesty, then a fence." I mean "a big fence, repeal of birthright citizenship, a national database of SSNs for employers to check, huge penalties for employers employing illegals, and widespread deportations." THAT'S "comprehensive"!

To keep this whole circus in a little perspective, the man playing reverend (Slim Coleman) is as much a reverend as Jesse Jackson is. I remember this guy from back in the 80's, when Harold Washington was mayor. An unemployed 'activist' pest with his hands out for part of the spoils.

The child is an "anchor baby." The mother is a FELON! She was deported once, and came back a few days later. Felony! Mother needs her ass in jail, then deportation.

We're scammed again. Illegals will come here eight months pregnant to take advantage of the invitation to fraud. And I don't doubt there's plenty of fraud extending from that, with people who have no relation to the anchor baby claiming kinship. Hell, the proud mom could sell the priveledge of blood relationship, with the appropriate documents to prove it.

She is a felon more than once. She was working under a fraudulent social security number. That is also a felony......identity theft, etc.
