They're just throwing the immigrant issue in there for the heck of it. I don't even remember when that happened . . . but it had nothing to do with this lady.

Gwinnett has had an incredible influx of Hispanic immigrants, most of them illegal. The county used to be mostly white with some black residents (there are historically fewer minorities in N GA) now it is almost majority Hispanic (IIRC - heard this from a friend a few weeks ago who lives there). The illegals don't pay taxes, don't spend money locally (they send almost all of it back to Mexico), live 20 in a house, and are a drain on the county funds.

I imagine ill-feeling against those folks is the reason for the cutting of library funding for Spanish language books . . .

The author wanted us to associate the Spanish question (public libraries) with the Harry Potter fruitcake (schools), for liberal propaganda purposes. That's the only reason to have mentioned the Spanish books issue.

Its the truth... they're only recently cracking down on homes in neighborhoods that seem to have 20 people living in them and 6 cars parked on the street in front...

that said... I'm still teaching my son to speak Spanish so he can help direct the lawn guys when they're trimming our hedges in Alpharetta (over in North Fulton)...

;D

p.s. I know I shouldn't joke...it IS a real problem... But, I think putting excess Florida aligators in the Rio Grande would be a good start....

don't spend money locally (they send almost all of it back to Mexico)

Actually, last time I was in Gwinnett on business (about two years ago), I had to stop at a Wal Mart and most of the shoppers were illegals. I'm sure all the Mickey Ds that they buy, to say nothing of those Toyota Tundras they were buying, were purchased in Mexico as well.

I'm not directing this at you personally, but one of the STUPIDEST arguments against illegal immigration is the lower middle class populist "they send all their money home" BS. All of my grandparents did the same, and it did not stop them from buying most of their goods locally, attending movies, etc. Let;s also not forget that the global economy is not a zero sum game/one way street. The dollar knows no fatherland, and freely circulates through several countries several times a day.

There are plenty of strong arguments against illegal immigration, remittances are not one of them. It just makes us all look like dumb goobers who are ignorant about global economics.
