Without heavyweights exposing the fallacy of gun control, this could be real bad news.

They better invite Wayne LaPierre or Chris Cox.

Maybe not. It sounds like they are going to discuss security. Teachers allowed to carry may come out of this.

Bah, just what we need.....a useless "summit".

What we need it to devolve more control to local schools so they can be responsible for their students safety as opposed to federal mandates.

It would be best to cancel this fiasco and send his sincere prayers to the Amish community in PA.

He should not let people attempt to exploit this. He would not be president if not for the Amish turnout for him.

He's just responding to recent news events. I'm not impressed.

A bit worried, in fact, that this president, who made his support of the assault weapons ban part of his election strategy, would even open this up to the type of publicity sure to come.

It's all being fed by the media. Suicide by school violence is the "in" way to go, if you're depressed. The media should substitute the word "whorehouse" for "schoolhouse" whenever these incidents occur, and the copycats will soon be attacking the wrong place.

I say let's throw more money at it and ban guns. That always works. Right? Right?????

Here's a plan: Disolve the Federal Education Commission, Give all education taxes back to the individual States, Privatize education and make it competitive, put schools out to bid on expiring contracts, abolish tenure for teachers, abolish the "can't spank a child" Act, put a curfew on all students for 10:00 pm and punish parents for not being home with them. Ok... maybe a little harsh but you get the idea.

In Israel, these crimes do not happen. In Israel, teachers carry guns. Coincidence????

Several 100 million people a year have countless chances to do what this devoid did but they don't. Someone who is armed and has their mind set to do what this guy did will likely succeed. No amount of summits or meetings will change that.

It will be interesting to see what this turns out to be.

Can you imagine a White House occupied by an insipid creature like John Kerry? Surrounded by anti-gun zealots, the Brady Bunch would be operating carte blanche right out of the Oval Office.

The solution to this, of course, is MORAL CHARACTER, something all-too-lacking in our society today. Of course, this optimal solution is also the most difficult to achieve, especially in this emasculated and victimhood-laden age. Figures!

The President will just have to excuse me for thinking this "summit" is being used for political cover and NOT for finding realworld solutions.

On the school hostage/murder stories and strange, second-day additions to "evidence," I'm reminded of a "Leave It to Beaver" episode. In it, the Beav told a lie and attempted to cover it with another lie. As a very experienced policeman once told me (after the Academy), "You'll see things that you wouldn't have previously believed. And sometimes, it will be easier to believe a lie than it will be to believe the truth." He was right.

As for further officious violations of the Second Amendment, yes, those are on the way.

Bush is capitalizing on the recent spate of school shootings to further consolidate Federal power over the States. Plain and simple.

Oh, this is just simply great. Take the blame for Katrina, and now this. Just what conservatives want to hear; it is the fault of the federal government that the nation's children are sick and have no moral compass. More legislation is what we need, I tell ya!

I don't like the sound of this at all. Watch for gungrabbing Congressmen and Senators to use this conference to influence Bush toward favoring more gun control. I'm pretty sure that some of that type will be invited to any conference on the school tragedies just to show Republican bipartisanship on the matter.

The grabbers will always turn these kinds of school shootings into a media circus focused on banning guns and punishing gun owners instead of where it should be focused, on workable measures to stop these nutjobs from gaining access to schools. I don't have any specific suggestions for how that can be done, but there are professional security experts available who do that sort of thing for corporate clients and could do the same for schools. If school boards can afford all the unnecessary foofoorall that my generation got along just fine without they can afford to hire expert security consultants.

Bush was willing to go along with the AWB, and has seemed very reluctant to come out in public support of pro-gun legislation even though he has signed the few pro-gun bill that have come to his desk. I guess the bottom line for me on Bush and gun owner rights is that I just don't fully trust his real attitude toward 2nd Amendment rights any more than I did his dad's.

They need to teach kids a "Never Again" attitude instead of teaching them submissive compliance.

Deranged gunman/perverts are best handled exactly like the terrorists on flight 91. They mean to kill as many as possible, so active resistance is called for. Fight like hell to thwart them. You may die fighting, but you definitely will die complying, and fighting may give others the opportunity to survive.

The bodies of these slugs should be dragged to the public square, hung on a gibbet, burned and then thrown onto a trash dump.
