So it is starting to look more and more like Bob Woodward, in his following of Kitty Kelly's footsteps, also decided to simply made up large portion of his current book.

Andy Card Denies Woodward Claim

Ronald Kessler Monday, Oct. 2, 2006

Former White House Chief of Staff Andrew H. "Andy" Card Jr. has denied Bob Woodward's claim that he and first lady Laura Bush tried to get Donald Rumsfeld fired as defense secretary.

Card told NewsMax that the assertion in Woodward's book "State of Denial" that he thought Rumsfeld should have been the one to leave the administration instead of himself was also "not true." Card left as chief of staff in April.

According to an excerpt to be published in the Washington Post on Sunday, "State of Denial" says, "He [Card] was leaving. And the man most responsible for the postwar troubles, the one who should have gone, Rumsfeld, was staying."

But Card told NewsMax, "I never felt that someone should have left ‘instead' of me." Card said any implication that he was bitter about leaving was also "not true at all."

News accounts about the Woodward book led with Andy Card trying to oust Rumsfeld with the support of Laura Bush. But White House spokesman Tony Snow quoted Laura Bush's office as saying Woodward's claim relating to her was "flatly not true." In addition, Card told the Associated Press that Laura Bush never encouraged an effort to oust Rumsfeld.

"Mrs. Bush and I never discussed it," Card said.

Only two major news outlets ran Laura Bush's denial — the Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post.

In his book, Woodward wrote that Card urged Bush to replace Rumsfeld with former Secretary of State James Baker following the 2004 election. According to the book, Bush decided not to do so after Vice President Dick Cheney and chief political adviser Karl Rove convinced him it would be seen as an expression of doubt about the direction of the war and expose Bush to criticism.

Woodward claimed that Card, with the backing of first lady Laura Bush, tried a second time to persuade Bush to fire Rumsfeld around Thanksgiving 2005. But according to Woodward, the president again refused to replace him.

But according to Card, he never pushed for Rumsfeld's resignation. He said he kept a list of potential Cabinet and staff changes for Bush to consider after the 2004 election, as he did after other important dates.

"To say that it was a campaign or an orchestrated effort would be wrong,"' Card said. "But were there times that we talked about potential changes in the Cabinet? Yes. Did they center around Rumsfeld? Not necessarily. They were in a broader context."

Tony Snow, besieged by questions about it at his daily briefing, said the book was similar to others critical of the war effort and that much of it was less than meets the eye.

"In a lot of ways, the books are like cotton candy. They kind of melt on contact,'" he said.

In a story that ran July 31, Card told NewsMax that his own resignation arose after he had been thinking for some time that "the president needed something that would allow external observers to see that he had new momentum." Card said he already had a lot of changes in the works, but nobody would have seen them as change.

"So it was time for new personalities to help give definition to the word change," Card said. "I first went to the president more than a month and a half before I left. I said, ‘You know, I think it's probably time to think about it.'"

"Nah!" the president replied at Camp David. "I'm not going to do anything."

Card suggested he give it some thought.

"We talked a handful of other times about it, and finally it was the right time," Card said.

I agree with you. I NEED to hear Rush and Levin. They lift my spirits.
Besides, remember how Newt never answered the critics? He figured people were smart enough to know the crats and press were lying. Surprise. They weren't. And the sh**pile grew and keeps growing.

Interesting post on Macsmind Blog

Several sources are telling me that there is an extreme amount of “nervousness” in the Democratic side of the isle that this so-called “Republican Scandal” may actually bite them in the ass in November. Seems that although Foley played the willing pervert, he might have actually been enable a bit, not by Republicans but by those sympathetic for the Democrat cause. So we now know that George Soros funded CREW knowingly withheld possibly criminal information just so it could have the greatest political effect. Moreover, we know that a leftist “Gay Republican Outer”, actually played a material part in the plot as well, even going so far we believe as to pose as one of the chatters.

We have a bogus blogger site, http://www.stopsexpredators.blogspot.com, that this morning removed damaging comments, and has the FBI looking into who started it up. Again, more than likely the same poser mentioned above.

All of this on top of an nearly orchestrated response by the Democrats - far too orchestrated to be have enabled on the fly - to the Foley issue.

So the question is going to ratchet up now. “What did DEMOCRATS know, and more importantly, WHAT part did they play.

We’re going to soon find out.

Extra Note: On Brian (didn’t talk about it in 2005 because I was busy with Katrina) Ross’s blog, he now admits to receiving “52 separate instant message exchanges, which former pages say were sent by Foley, using the screen name Maf54, to two different boys under the age of 18.”

He adds….

“This message was dated April 2003, at approximately 7 p.m., according to the message time stamp.”

Excuse me? 2003? So there are all these recorded chat messages - messages that have to be chosen to be recorded as no chat or im software does that by default, coming like a flury, all of a sudden. Again, WHO held these messages in a “undeclosed location” and incidently, withheld evidence, from 2003 until now.

The Democratic leadership ought to be worried, because this is precisely what the DOJ and FBI and looking to find out.

remember how Newt never answered the critics?

You're right...but Newt has learned now. He's doing a better job as a spokesman (and maybe Presidential candidate) than he did as Speaker in Communicating the message. But thanks, all I can say is I need Rush and Mark sometimes to buttress my will...

Sheppy has been harder on guests about this Foley thing

I was just noticing the same thing. He was smacking Viguerie around pretty good. Very smart of him to have read the emails out loud. I recall reading them the first time. I am a parent and I didn't feel any sense of alarm.

I really do think the dems have overdone this thing. The whole impression that they are leaving in the minds of the public is that homosexuals cannot be trusted anywhere near children. Maybe their gay constutency will forgive them if they get into power because they know they will remove all barriers between them and children.

I think Sheppy may be gay :)

They are saying that the IMs were from three years ago. That would make the timing right, but only from Foley's end because somewhere I heard that the IMs were sent from the page's private computer. Bet the Dems found info when they opened the lines up, so to speak. They just kept it at THAT time. Bet they're reading all kinds of secret stuff...still.

If the GOP wants to get Pelosi and others to back off saying that the Repubilicans don't care about children...then maybe THEY need to point out...that it is the DEMS that are associating a gay man with child sex predators..

BUT, they want GAY marriage...

IOW...the GOP HAS to point out how totally hypocritical the dems are...and maybe the Log Cabin Republicans might just join in...

lol. Where do you think I heard him doing it? I heard the show. He sounded like a shill. Usually he's better than that, but he has his moments. This was one of them.
