Haynesworth suspended for unprecedented five

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Albert Haynesworth's temper has landed him in trouble with teammates and coaches before. By stomping another player's head, the Tennessee Titans defensive tackle not only disgusted himself, he also drew a five-game suspension -- the longest for on-field behavior in NFL history.

And that may just be the beginning of the grief for Haynesworth, who fell to the Titans in the middle of the first round of the 2002 draft because of maturity questions.

The 6-foot-6, 320-pound Haynesworth stomped on Dallas Cowboys center Andre Gurode's head Sunday, knocking off his helmet, then kicked and stomped his face. Gurode needed 30 stitches to repair the cuts left by the tackle's cleats, and plans to talk with his family about whether or not to press charges, his agent told Nashville police Monday.

5 games is a bit light. I have no problem with the season, but I'd also think 10 games would be fine as well, though that's almost the rest. 8 games minimum (half).

Should have banned him for the season!

Kicking and stomping on someone's head and face with cleats, after the helmet has come off, is aggravated battery to you and me. He should probably be in jail.

"What I did out there was disgusting," Haynesworth said Sunday. "It doesn't matter what the league does to me. The way I feel right now, you just can't describe it."

If he'd been a politician, he would have already checked into alcohol rehab.

We haven't heard the last of this one. There's a good possibility the civil authorities will get involved (He's currently being suspended for 5 games and won't get paid - about $190K).

The league put this on him. Will be interesting what the team does.

If I owned the team, Haynewworth would be more afraid of me then the league.

Ban him from football for life, press charges, and sue.

He deserves all of the above, plus some. Hammering him would also send a message that needs to be sent.

He should be in jail.

Anyone else would be. I wasn't aware that NFL players had immunity from the laws regarding assault.

I would have thought he would be ejected completely from footbal for this.

OK maybe for this season..

But only 5 games??? For what could bring possible criminal charges and jail time? They are gonna draw some heat over this.

He's now being courted by the Democrats so the party can show they are serious about stomping out terrorism.

Should have banded him from the NFL. And charged him with assault. That act was not part of a football game.

The Nashville police have contacted Andre Gurode, and are waiting for his say. They said they will charge Haynesworth if Gurode agrees.

IMO he should be banned from the game for life...and criminally prosecuted. How is this any different from Mike Tyson?
