The facts of the disgrace of Mark Foley, who was a Republican member of the House from a Florida district until he resigned last week, constitute a disgrace for every Republican member of Congress. Red flags emerged in late 2005, perhaps even earlier, in suggestive and wholly inappropriate e-mail messages to underage congressional pages. His aberrant, predatory -- and possibly criminal -- behavior was an open secret among the pages who were his prey. The evidence was strong enough long enough ago that the speaker should have relieved Mr. Foley of his committee responsibilities contingent on a full investigation to learn what had taken place, whether any laws had been violated and what action, up to and including prosecution, were warranted by the facts. This never happened....

I forgot about the William Jefferson hissy fit. Hastert hasn't exactly been an inspring leader. Maybe its because there really are no inspiring leaders in the House. Just bureaucrats and time-servers.
no kidding. Once the argument is , "Hey, Hastert just thought there was some flirtin' going on" the argument is lost.
As far as the FBI raid goes, those ol'boys should be treated the same way any other unlawful insurrectionist is dealt with.
A few months in Guananamo would do the whole agency a world of good.
So can I ask your son for a photo of himself without you thinking something is up. For the sake of argument, lets say I am also a 51 year old single man.
If Hastert resigns, then the republicans will be part of a blood bath by election day. They might just lose every seat in the house to folks who SUPPORT what Foley did, but won't say so now.
These things don't blow accidentally just 30 days before an election.
The danger of keeping things in the closet is that enemies can simply wait until a time advantageous to them to release this info. National security cannot afford homosexuals with top secret security clearances.
Hastert was negligent: he knew about it and didn't innoculate the party by bringing it into the open earlier. Nonetheless, Foley will not be treated like the Mass Dem congressman who KEPT his teenage page.
One thing for democrats: at least they fight back in politics. Maybe not in world terrorism, but they don't lay down for people politically.
You're kidding right? The democrats have too many lists of their own scoundrels that should have been long gone. I can't understand why or how they're keeping their seats.
How do you know Tony wrote the editorial?
Its all about pathology. who would think it was one and done for Foley and the first kid they heard about? That's what these animals do, they scatter-shot and see what they can get. what the hell would Foley need the pic of an underage boy for? You can bet "send me a pic" gets the ball rolling on all those internet stings.
I heard that argument pushed last night, and it won't fly.
The personal behavior of a caucus member always remains within the caucus, unless and until laws or rules are violated. In this case, it had not risen to that level until the IM's were made public.
Since the democrats had the IM's and the Republicans did not, whom do you think is responsible? Who has been withholding pertinent information?
The Dem's shielded him until the time was right to us the MSM in a way that could affect the elections on a national basis, and upset the Republican leadership at the most critical time possible.
so, where is your cite that the Democrats had the messages and held them? I've heard that said a few times. Proof?
That's the voters job.
If that were so, then the Dems wouldn't want him gone.
and where has that gotten the party over the last 30 years? They are are a morally bankrupt party declining in power, ideas and vision. They closed ranks to protect clinton and lost the WH in a political climate that should have been a cakewalk.
Even the FBI didn't find anything on Foley.
Not strange at all, once you consider it's run by Moonies. Homosexuality is anathema to them. They would rather turn the country over to the communists they fear than have a sodomite within three degrees of separation from any public office, down to assistant dog catcher.
But we shouldn't judge them too harshly: there are plenty of Freepers who fit that description, too.
There's no reason for Mr. Hastert to resign OTHER THAN the fact that it will play into the Dems plans. Why, oh, why would we want to make them happy?
The idea is moronic.
It didn't take the Democrats long to exploit the sleazy Mark Foley scandal with their own sleazy political commercial, produced in record time."
Did Dems know this was coming? Seems like they were awful ready for this. It would not surprise me if Dems, as well as Repubs, knew these Text Messages/e-mails were coming.
ABC knew in August!
The dems are too myopic to think about that. They only want the house and they want it now. They are kicking and scratching and clawing for anything they can get.
Hastert is not a cop! If Foley had a serious drinking problem would Hastert have the responsibility?
