WASHINGTON TIMES ON TUESDAY WILL CALL FOR SPEAKER HASTERT'S RESIGNATION, NEWSROOM SOURCES TELL DRUDGE... DEVELOPING... Editorial titled: 'Resign, Mr. Speaker': 'House Speaker Dennis Hastert must do the only right thing, and resign his speakership at once... Mr. Hastert has forfeited the confidence of the public and his party, and he cannot preside over the necessary coming investigation, an investigation that must examine his own inept performance'... -- Washington Times, October 3, 2006...
I honestly don't know how these IM's can be authenticated
as it is obvious they were copied and saved and could easily have had the content of the messages changed.... although I'm not hearing Foley or anyone else indicate that is the case. It's just a fact the content could easily be manipulated.
"I'm having a hard time understanding why everyone is giving legitimacy to a bunch of IMs that haven't been verified."
That's my point. The IM's can't possible be verified.
OMG I had no idea. Thanks!
Those are good questions and good thoughts, but what about the timing? Five weeks before an election that will decide the fate of the House? With repercussions that will spread from Washington to Iraq, and from there decades into the future. I'm sorry, but for the next five weeks, I am 100% behind Hastert. Right, wrong, or whatever, the party will have unity and loyalty from me. AFTER the election, then we'll see, but NOT BEFORE THEN. Damn it, people, think about what's on the line here!!!!
because Foley isn't denying the content.
but you are correct, if these were Dem IMs - the first thing the left would do is say "prove they represent the exact conversation that took place".
Thanks for your thoughtful response. I know one thing. I want to beat the DEMS in Nov. Without insightful and strong leadership the infighting grows. It's my opinion that conservatives want to advance, but they're frustrated because they can't find a strong articulate leader who will take it to our opponents both abroad (UN) and at home. As a result this kind of infighting will become more serious especially because the Dems get away with brainless duplicity, yet conservatives must make that "compromise" to show we have a generous spirit. I think many are tired of it and are going to take it out on those who have appeared mushy in the Republican leadership. Thanks again for your thoughts. :0)
Excellent post. I am standing firm and voting straight republican all the way down my ticket in Oregon. Soros, Pelosi, Reid, Kerry, Kennedy, Rockefeller, Dean, et al, can kiss my ass.
"Brit mentions that Cong. Alexander changed parties in the middle of all of this...and that his former staffers from when he was a DEM took the e-mails and I can't remember what Brit said they did with them...maybe to the media??"
Seems there are a lot of ticked off Dems at Alexander

Foley isn't saying anything at all. What good would it do to deny it? If they're legit, it makes him a blatant liar, if they were ginned up, no one is going to believe him because the mighty ABC printed them. Frankly, I'm surprised he hasn't thrown himself off a bridge yet.
And another version:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1712501/posts#comment?q=1
if they were fabricated - he would be out there screaming about it.
otherwise, you are basically telling me that tomorrow - ABC could print fabricated IMs for any other republican congressman they selected (its trivial to fabricate this), and the contents would instantly be true just because ABC published them.
Indeed and apparently ABC hasn't played it's full hand. Here's the latest which they released tonight, as reported on CNN's website:
Maf54: I miss you lots since san diego.
Teen: ya I cant wait til dc
Maf54: :)
Teen: did you pick a night for dinner
Maf54: not yet...but likely Friday
Teen: ok...ill plan for Friday then
Maf54: that will be fun
So now we have him arranging to meet a teen.
I agree with you on timing. I think it stinks, but it seems that when militant Islam gets aggressive the world bows down to see how they can meet their needs. It just might be that conservatives are so frustrated because speaking one's mind nicely doesn't work anymore. Could it be that some conservatives are leveraging the election against Rep. leadership because that's all they have? I don't know this to be true. It's just a question. I've always disliked the political strategy that befriends your enemy more than befriending those who got you elected. Conservatives are the backbone of this party are should be celebrated as such.
No mention of the IM's which they had posted on their site
it sounds more like the teen is arranging to meet him.
This may be a good thing. Don't get me wrong, I don't think House Leadership SHOULD resign; however...given the weak backbone of some Repubs, I wouldn't be surprised. But imagine if we got a new speaker elected this week or next who can say: this will be a different House. Someone who can energize the base, and make people think differently of it. I dunno maybe thats an idea...
How much money went to Bill&Hill and their happy horde of sticky fingered friends? Probably millions.
are you serious?
if the house leadership resigns this week over this - you'll be looking at speaker pelosi for sure in january.
