Day One: Suspicious-but-not-explict emails.
Day Two: Explicit instant messages, but no evidence Foley met with boys.
Day Four: Instant message indicating Foley was indeed seeking to meet and possibly had already met with a boy.
Foley deserves what he's gotten and what is likely to come. But it seems increasingly plausible that the timed release of information - of ever-increasing seriousness - is part of a calculated campaign to keep the story in the news and inflict the maximum amount of political damage on the GOP.
That would seem the logical inference in light of the latest information promulgated this afternoon by ABC News. An article written by Brian Ross and Maddy Sauer, E-mails Show Foley Sought to Rendezvous with Page, contains the text of an instant message session in which Foley expressly tells a boy "I want to see you." Foley also mentions "I miss you a lot since San Diego," suggesting that perhaps they had already met.
When Ross' source provided him the first email, isn't it likely that he already had the more graphic instant messages in his possession? But dumping everything on day one would have reduced the number of news cycles of front page coverage.
This story has obviously destroyed Foley's professional career. It might inflict wider damage on the GOP. But if it turns out that political partisans were behind a carefully-timed disclosure campaign, it's not hard to imagine a serious backlash on the Democrats.
If they are, they didn't count on the republicans acting quickly to dump Foley.
Every NEW revelation about Foley just reminds people that he is the FORMER congressman, because the republicans act when evidence is presented, unlike the democrats, who have several people under a dark cloud and they still serve and are running for re-election.
But the democrats did manage to get Mckinney out in a primary.....
ACK...sorry, I must have missed that ping...
Everyone go to governsbest thread for that story!!
I pray so...
of course it was RATs behind the deal. But if the authors think the SHeeple voters will clobber for us, they can think again. The Xlintons' are evidence that the RATs can and will practice the politics of destruction ad infinitum.
Conclusion: Our guys need to be spotless conservatives...and if we don't clean house ourselves...it's all over.

LOL...I just turned to MSBNC...and the headline is...
WHAT DID GOP LEADERS KNOW??
Not a word about what Foley did...they don't CARE what Foley did...not at all..they couldn't care less about the kids.
I'm watching it now. Fineman and Matthews claiming it makes no difference if GOP leadership had been unaware of the explicit stuff.
1. Barbara Boxer dumped a story in the final days of the 1992 election that Bruce Hershenson visited a strip club. Boxer won and became Senator.
2. Barbara Boxer dumped a story in the final days of the 1998 election that Matt Fong had contributed money to an anti-gay group. Fong was winning but ended up losing the election.
3. Gray Davis supporters orchestrated a bogus lawsuit against the company of challenger Bill Simon. The trial was fast-tracked to reach a guilty verdict before the election. Simon lost the election, but the conviction was overturned on appeal a few months later.
4. Arnold Schwarzenegger was attacked by the LA Times during the 2003 recall election about groping women on movie sets. He still won.

Good historical analogies. Thanks for posting.
Of course the dems don't really care what Foley did, it is all about "GOTCHA". Their timing for release of this info is pure politics. Shame on them, and shame on Foley. Hastert finally stood in their faces and said, "Let's investigate". Good for him.
Very true.
The selective outrage exhibited by the left is nauseating. How DARE they get all pious over Foley when they couldn't do much more than stand and applaud Gary Studds- who was the most egregious child molester EVER sent to DC. At least the voters saw him differently than the Beltway demonRATS did. And how about Phil Crain? Seems to me his taste for underage girls was certainly immoral as well- not that you could guage it by the left's reaction to HIS crimes.
Foley deserves to be run out of town on a rail and good riddance. As usual, the reps are more than ready to condemn their own if they are wrong. However, having said that, I would dearly LOVE to know what the DEMONRATS knew and when they knew it. This is a democrat setup. It stinks to high heaven and has their fingerprints ALL over it. The timing is just too precious to have happened by chance.
That is right...they don't care...but they are going to make it matter.
After what I posted earlier, about what I heard on Hannity's radio show....I am MORE sure that they don't care at all what happened/didn't happen to any pages.
I wish Sissy Chrissy would put someone on his show that would bring up that story, but he won't...
I also noticed he put on the DEM running for Foley's place...KERRY was down their campaigning for him on Saturday...coincidence??
what did the rats know and when did they know it?!
Yup. Good historical examples.
"If Foley were a Democrat, he would be a hero and Democrats would be running to his aid."
Yep, him and McGreevey would be on Larry King tonight as the featured guests.
Then Opraha the next day and along with the Today Show and GMA. Heros they would be proclaimed.
"Ironically, Foley, who is 52 and single, could be found to have violated a law that he helped to write as co-chairman of the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus."
5. The news of GWB's decades old DUI surfaced right before the 2000 election.
It does seem like a well-planned series of events, including the new Woodward book, (and I wonder what ELSE is in store!) but that being said, if any GOP leaders knew about or suspected Foley's sexually predatory emails or IM's, they need to resign immediately.
High standards for leaders need to be applied to everyone, regardless of whether it impinges upon the GOP or not.
