From 'dull' accountant to determined candidate (Mark Kennedy Profile)
Minneapolis StarTribune (aka The Red Star) ^ | 10/01/06 | Jay Weiner - Staff Reporter

Over dinner, on their first date, Mark Kennedy, the insurance salesman's son from Pequot Lakes, gazed into the eyes of Debbie Miller, the farm girl from Hawley.

Both of them have forgotten his exact words. But she remembers that he stated his intentions clearly: "One day I'm going to run for office."

She believed him. History shows she had reason to.

It was the summer of 1979. He was 22, a young Republican sporting a bushy hairdo and bursting with ambition.

I'm totally frickin' amazed!

The StarTribune actually did a great piece on Mark Kennedy's Senate campaign.

The piece shows Mark Kennedy exactly as many have known him to be - a decent, hard-working guy who won't lie thru his teeth (like Amy Klobuchar) to win a Senate race.

Comments or opinions - anyone?

Kennedy is unapologetic about the tactic. He says the ads about Klobuchar's record are "100 percent factual" and necessary because the media, including the Star Tribune, is not critiquing her and is imposing a "near blackout on anything positive" he has done.

Love it ... though buried near the end of the article.

Debbie Miller, the farm girl from Hawley.

Hawley, it may not be the end of the world...but you can see it from there. :-)

Did anyone hear Mark latest ad on the radio? GREAT!

I'm no where near MN but I saw a great ad on the Internet for Kennedy. It was totally positive focusing on Kennedy and his family. It poked fun at his "accountant" demeanor. I hope it has run on tv in MN. It was very endearing.

I can only repeat what I've said about Kennedy - he works for his constituents and he works hard! He is my congressman in the 6th district and every single time I have contacted his office, I get a response in a short period of time. When Bill Luther was in, I NEVER got a response to anything I called or emailed about. That is the truth.

Kennedy would be a far better representative for Minnesota. I had a conversation with a left leaning attorney friend of mine last weekend and she said Klobuchar is impossible to work with and she's a *itch! I was surprised to hear this from her.

This is a surprise. It may be that the (Red) Star concluded that since his campaign is a lost cause, there's no harm in doing a fair article about him.

I don't personally think it's a lost cause, but he has not led in a single poll starting in mid 2005.

You can catch the radio ads here.

And a good blog supporting Kennedy is Kennedy vs. the Machine.

Make sure to read the right sidebar showing the latest Mpls. crime stats - something Chief Prosecutor Amy Klobuchar (our county attorney) is mum about these days.

{media, including the Star Tribune, is not critiquing her (The RAT) and is imposing a "near blackout on anything positive" he (The Good Kennedy) has done.}

I thought the 2004 Presidential race was the most bias lection news coverage. So far for this election cycle, the "objective media" has surpassed itself. Its a new reality we have to deal with.

Unfortunately, Kennedy is the MSM's favorite kind of Republican...one who's down 10 in the polls.

I may be cynical, but I always think that when the MSM says anything nice about a Republican candidate, it means that they have officially decided that he can't win.
