ARTICLE SNIPPET: "BRINDISI, Italy A Turkish man who commandeered a Turkish Airlines plane to Italy was not protesting Pope Benedict XVI's planned visit to Turkey, but was seeking political asylum, Transport Minister Binali Yildirim said Tuesday.
The minister said the hijacker was seeking to evade military service in his native country. "It has nothing to do with the pope's visit; it was a simple attempt of seeking political asylum under the influence of psychological problems," Yildirim said of the hijacker, Hakan Ekinci, by telephone from Baku, Azerbaijan."
