It's cut and dried, black and white. While one may be sympathetic to the teacher, the fact that she broke the law is undeniable and not debateable.Do you feel that way about all laws? How about the laws that most of the Senate and part of the House, and President Bush do not favor enforcing?
Inquiring minds would like to know.

A bullet by itself will not leave the barrel of a gun.

When it comes to self defense, IMHO, any law is mute. You and I and everyone else has the right to defend themselves if they think that at any moment they could be attacked. Yes a jury nullification is in order in this circumstance.

First, I think the more responsible teachers we have armed the better. In this case I disagree though. Her hot head to be ex has already shown he can be violent. IMO she should have explained the circumstances to her principal and asked for a transfer to a lower risk area temporarily because if she feared her husband enough to think he might come to her school then, her students were at risk too.

***After the events of last week, I think teachers should be encouraged to arm themselves.***
After the Mah'lot schoolhouse massacre in Israel by the ROP back in the 1970's, teachers and some students were armed with assault rifles!
It has been suggested in the US, but from my experience in High School back in the 1960's, some students think it is their purpose in life to "set off" the teachers.

School officials learned about the gun after a co-worker asked Roe how she is protecting herself against her husband, the police report states, and she told him that she had a gun in her purse, according to the sheriff's department. The co-worker told Nisqually Principal Karen Owen, the report states, and school officials called deputies.
Accessory after the fact -- to murder.

a .38 Special handgun - along with bullets Wow! I would have expected her to bring a handgun along with a steamed vegetable, but that's just me...

You don't get it, that's fine, we'll just disagree respectfully.
I don't condone criminal activity but there are times when the law itself creates criminal activity via poor judgment & unintended consequences.
To: MeneMeneTekelUpharsin
I don't consider it tattling in this case. I would have voiced my concerns too if I though a "shoot out" coming. IAC I hope she doesn't get in to too much trouble. Sad situation.
To: CindyDawg
My $0.02. That gun she had coulda jumped out of her purse and started assaulting kids. There's already a lwa barring her husband from bringing one onto school property, so she really didn't need it. If her husband were to actually attack her, all she would have to do is call 9-11.
Right?

It is stories like this and the previous couple about individuals (adult & student) walking unchallenged into schools and killing whom they please that are going to make schools extremely unsafe for whomever is being pursued by those who want them dead. It also has to catch the attention of terrorists (i.e. Beslan) who want to make the most impact on those they wish to influence. We are on the very edge of a horrific incident which will be the culmination of the agenda of the left regarding self-protection.
When it finally explodes in our faces, may God bring justice upon those who have brought all of this on those of us who are innocent and may it be total and complete.

No. The last women we read about here was right when she said her husband was going to kill her. It's realistic that he could come up to the school with his gun and meet her gun and kids could have accidentally got hurt. Even without a weapon I think the responsible thing to do is to tell your boss that you have a problem. I would not be upset to learn that a teacher was armed to protect her students. I just would want to know about safety precautions. However if I was informed that the teacher was going thru a divorce and that her husband had recently assaulted her and was threatening to again, I would be very concerned about kids getting hurt.

I also carry a gun, and I'm downright pedantic about obeying state and local laws. "...the Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
I'm not about to set myself up to become a victim just because some lame-o politician thought he knew better than the Founders of our nation.

No I'm not, but I understand that the NRA makes it a point that gun owners follow all gun laws to a T.
Some gunowners aren't members of the NRA or any other gun-rights organization, however, and aren't familiar with the 20,000 or so federal/state/local gun laws. They just need a gun for protection, they're just people who need a weapon to protect themselves. So all that "De law iz de law" babble is moot.

Yeah, call 911. lol Our local police took 2 hours to respond to a 911 call. 2 on duty(small town), both transporting prisoners to the local jail from the station.Only glad, no one was killed. It was a break-in, the husband caught the guy, thinking cops were on the way! The perp decided to leave after a bit. Yup, and now they want more money to get more oficers! lol I would rather count on myself than ever count on any LEO.

This is where the charge to Peace Officers and Prosecutors to enforce the
Spirit of the Law instead of the
Word of the law has been taken away. There was a time where a police officer dispatched to this call would say "look, I know you brought this gun because you felt your life is in danger and you have no intent to kill anyone or start any trouble with this gun, but it is against the law to bring this gun to school. Take the gun home and we will come up with some ways to make you feel safer."
But with so many people (the press) looking to "make their bones" by exposing something that will cause controversy, LEO's these days are too afraid to use their own judgment. They know they can't get fired or prosecuted by just following the word of the law and then pass the buck up to the DA, who is in the same boat the LEO is, and says screw it, let the jury decide. It sucks, but what do you think the media would do if they got word that a cop "refused to enforce a law".
